I am planning on buying myself a welder for Christmas. I have always used my dads old Lincoln stick welder and I want to buy one for myself. I have some mods planned for our pup and other trailers that I have. What kind of welder do you have or recommend?

Hey Buddy! I also am planning to buy me a welder to use around the house. I have a big shelter projest which is about 40% complete. My neighbor moved last year that got me started on it. So I need to purchase a mig welder to finish. I am looking at this from Lowes.

Call me old school Jimmy but I still like the old stick welders. I thought about a wire welder but i dont want to deal with the gas and wire all the time. I grew up useing a welder like this one.

Miles, I totally understand! I was looking at using something like I sent you so I didn't have to use 220 volts. From what I am learning, the mig is easier to learn and for 1/4 steel, you don't have to use gas. It would weld cleaner with gas, but not a must do!

You are correct, "mig" is easier to learn. I like the smoke, smell and mess of the stick. ;D It reminds me of the hours and hours spent with my dad in his welding shop as a kid. I can still hear him saying " boy I tell you what, that's a gorilla weld. Big and ugly but strong!"

Believe it or not, but welding is something I've always wanted to learn. Unfortunately, I do not have any projects on the horizon that require welding.

You'll get her a welder for a birthday and she'll get you a pair of earrings for yours.
