Storm Trooper told me that route 219 has a detour before the campground.  The water is also high in sulfer smell.

Storm Trooper told me that route 219 has a detour before the campground.  The water is also high in sulfer smell.

Stormtrooper sent me an email earlier this afternoon, heres a cut and paste.
"John, there is a detour on 219 between Oakland and Thomas. Bridge out. Also, bring plenty of bottled water. Water here is loaded with sulphur. For some reason , I can't post on canvas from the CG. See you Wednesday.

Sent from my iPhone"

I went to the MD dept of Transportation site. A bridge is under construction 4-1/2 miles south of Oakland MD. It looks like the detour starts in Oakland onto MD 135 then a right onto MD 560. That will take you to US 50 at Gormania, the detour will then have you make a right and follow 50 back to 219 at Redhouse MD. It makes more sense though  at Gormania to make left and a quick right onto WV 90. Follow that on down and it puts you back on 219 a mile N of Thomas and will knock about 5 miles off the detour. I do not know who this affects, Myself and BigDawgGang I assume.

I am a risk taker, I used Google Earth and about 4 miles out of Oakland before the bridge there is a nice country farm road, Mason School Road. It appears that this also will get me around the bridge under construction with a minimal detour. I'll probably get stuck and be backtracking  😮 Here are the links to the location and detour. On the detour map Mason School RD is a left turn before the construction and brings you out on US 50 near Redhouse. You need to zoom way in on the PDF to see the road name.
LOCATION
DETOUR

I guess I'll fill both of my water tanks on the trailer, 2-5 gallon aquatainers, And grab another case of bottled and a case or two of gallons if I can fit them. It looks like the only close store is the worlds smallest Shop and Save in Davis.

I still intend on having 2 fold up tables, don't know the size yet as my warehouse guy was on vacation last week. I'll also have a spare 12X12 ez up. I also think we have some tiki oil buried in the truck somewhere.

And congrats on the new Chevy Thingette 1s sister.

With the detour would it be better for us to tale 220 to 50 from 68? If so I guess I'll have to reprogram my GPS.

The detour works and is well marked. Just about 5 or 6 miles out of the way.

Fri night - meet & greet 7 pm site 15
Sat night potluck - 6 pm site 15

I'm having a problem with tapatalk not posting , but I'm able to post through chrome. What a pain.

Would someone please compile and post everyone's potluck so far.
Thank you!!!!

And don't forget to bring bottled water. The bathhouse water is not bad, but the water out of the spigots in the circle stinks.

See you all soon.

We'll be bringing "Tropical Meatballs" and some kind of vegi, depending on what we see at any roadside stands we see along the way.

CGR,
WV is not the only place you can get good vittles.
Maine has a Brunswick Stew made with squirrels.  :camperkid:

The keys are on my list. Too bad they are so far away. It's been cool up here at night. 50's and very low 60's.

Jamie, believe it or not I sort of miss Palm Bay, Melbourne, and living on Satellite Beach. Your secret of site 19 is out of the bag by the way

I think Site 19 was the best site!  I got lucky on that one.  If I could get Tapatalk to insert a picture, I would post on of my site.  I will download the rest of my pictures soon and start another topic of my trip to Long Key.  We had 5 families together.

Satellite Beach is a lot different living than Palm Bay!  It's not bad here, but I grew up going to my grandparents in WV and I graduated from WVU, so I love it up there more than here.  I love to have seasons...you only have summer down here.

Double checked the gps and google maps.  They both say to take 79 68 119 50 so the bridge being out will not affect us.  We will be heading down on Wednesday.  Wish we could stay for the Potluck but we have 2 Grad parties on Saturday and DS and myself leave on Sunday for a week of Scout Camp.  11 straight days in the Great Outdoors  :D.

Backpacked Dolly Sods this past weekend.  Blackwater Falls if out there in the distance.
