This large park has over 40 miles of hiking trails, three state park natural areas and miles of trout streams. The Boulder Field, a striking boulder-strewn area, is a National Natural Landmark.

I just made the reservation for Site 203.  Since it's spring break for our kids the following week, we decided to stay Sunday night too.

I'll be making a reservation shortly.  Hopefully the weather will be better this year, as my wife is not onboard yet, hence no reservations.

We just booked Site 217

Last year, we saw deer, squirrel, turkey, fish and even a porcupine.  We didn't see any bear but know there had been 3 bear issues in the last five years, all related to careless storage of food.  I spoke to the ranger and was told we should be fine because the bear only come into the campground in the early season before the berries grow.  After that, there is enough food for them in the wild.  I thought about it and asked, "Well would that include April"... silence on the phone.

I did put Fritos in my buddies sleeping bag last year so the bear would come in his side of the camper knowing I just had to be able to out run him and not the bear. I know it's not a joke but it was funny.  :lmao:

Here is the winter like conditions at Hickory Run last trout opener site 166:

It rained all Friday night creating a 2hr drenching setup, with temperatures hovering around 35.  We ran out of propane by 1am Sunday and were packed up by 3am.
Not a fun first weekend out.

We just reserved site 204 :guitar:

I didn't want 205 since our dog would love to meet every person at the water fountain.
He has a habit of knocking down everything is his path.

I'm revisiting a few of my reservations to make sure that the new HTT will still fit in the sites I've chosen.

Are the sites at Hickory Run deep enough that I won't need to worry?

In general, does anyone have a good sense of what the 20/30/40 foot trailer options mean on the reservation site?  Our trailer is a 21ft, is 25ft tip to tip in drive mode, and 29 ft when the rear bunk is open. Would we choose a 20ft site since we don't exceed 30 feet or a 30ft site since we're closer to 30ft?

Thanks for any advice anyone has to offer.

This is a different loop that we stayed in last year, I think the sites are pretty big but the loop is not, a lot of trees.  I'd recommend calling the campground directly and ask their advice.  They are not busy this time of the year so parking your car at another site shouldn't be an issue either.

We're in, just booked 216 with the "limited turning radius" figured I'm up for the challenge and the bears would come visit us in the outside of the loop first ;D

We already had two snow storms this week mucking up everything  with 16"s total (another 4-8" later today), 7" of rain last week, and who knows what next week will give us.
I can't wait for April 15th!

Unfortunately we are still in winter condtions now into the 2nd week of spring in both Monroe and Carbon Counties.  My pup still has 5"s of snow on it and I will not be able to de-winterize it/sanitize with daily temps 17f to 31f 😮
Odds are looking like we all are going to have to cancel if the weather doesn't rapidly change for the better by April 9th.
Another snow storm is set to hit the area Weds/Thurs this week.

Nor'Easter forecasted for Friday.  Winter has not reduced it's grip on WMU3D  Carbon/Monroe/Pike.

Popped up over the weekend and have the pup opened.  April rains every day this week and Friday and Saturday look awfully wet on the forecast.  Ill be canceling our reservation unless a change occurs by Wednesday.

Looks like the normal first day of trout season. 70% chance of rain.

If it's not too much trouble, if anyone wants to post specific site reviews upon your return, I'd appreciate it as we might get up that way in the fall.  We camped there for several years with our tent, but haven't taken the PUP yet.

Thanks & good luck fishing!
