Well, both Veteran's and Windcreek's would certainly work for us. We'll just have to stay 2 nights rather than 3 if we don't get a discount. Either way, I know we'll have a super time, with super camper/friends.

I have been looking at travel distances and I came across Wind Creek State Park Alabama. It is on Lake Martin and looks like a nice place. I have never been there, so all I know about it is what I read. Looks like Mtnkube would be the furthest away (about 4.5 hours). Everyone else is 3.5 hours or less. I may have overlooked someone, if so sorry :-[ It's not really close to no one, but equally long distance for everyone. Lol.

It's pretty darn close to us.  ;D

I dont know why I didnt think about Wind Creek. I was there several years ago and it was very nice. I also didnt realize it would be an equal drive for everybody either. My vote would be for Wind Creek. 3 hours closer to our house than Cordele, GA.

5 hours driving for us.  That'd be a bit too much after work/school on Friday and again Sunday afternoon before school on Monday.  If there's a holiday involved, we might swing it.

We were at Windcreek SP this past March, its a very large park.  It being a state park, normally you can not reserve a specific site.  Not sure how it would be handled for a rally.  The COE have some great CG, but in Alabama most of the are on the West side of the state. There are a couple located on West Point Lake on the AL/GA line.

Great discussion! Al and I just got back tonight from a fall rally in Florida (O'Leno S.P.) and it was a minimum of a 6-hr. drive. For some reason, it seemed near the end of the drive that Atlanta has been moved north another hour!  😀  But....we made it!

We had a very nice time, but honestly, I think our GA Fall Rally a Lake Allatoona was a lot more fun only because of the camaraderie. Oh, and can't leave out that cornhole tournament and the delicious Southern food and hospitality. The FL folks are nice and this was our 2nd visit to this rally as we were there last fall. This time there was a festival in the park, and that lent itself to a lot of "away" time from the CG, but we met up with our fellow ralliers here and there. We invited the CG host to the potluck, and he brought his guitar and "sang for his supper."

Anyone planning on coming to "our" rally, bring your instruments and we'll sing along or dance with you!

Glad you all made it home Judy and Al.  We went to say goodbye on our way out, but you all weren't there.  🙁

This past Rally had a different feel to it for us as well.  It was still a lot of fun and seeing everyone and meeting new folks.  I guess we started playing cornhole in the field after dinner and most everyone left and went back to their site earlier than normal.

We will try to make it up there to this Rally if we can.  Depends on school, work, etc.

Jaime, sorry we were gone when you left! We took a "little" ride down to Cocoa Bch to see our nephew and new baby. We did have a great time and also enjoyed the gang and festival.

Sure hope you can make it to the upcoming regional/GA rally this spring.

Hey everyone! Glad to see some planning for the next rally  ;D

It seems like we're leaning towards having the rally near the GA/AL state line. If that's the case... I'd like to throw in my 2-cents... just for consideration. Having a little one, we really can't justify driving more that about 2.5 hours for camping (especially just for the weekend :-[). DH and I both work, and wouldn't be able to leave before 4pm. Windcreek CG is a 3.5 hr trip, straight through Atlanta at the worst possible time... so I'm not sure we would go to the trouble. With that said, if we could manage it over a holiday or break (DH is a teacher) then it's completely do-able!

Also, McKinney was a great campground, but it did lack lighting. With many folks traveling upwards of 3 hours to the rally, we might want to pick a CG with some sort of lights to help late arrivals with set-up. For instance, assuming we were to leave immediately from work, we couldn't make it to Windcreek CG before 8pm. I know that the location isn't set in stone, but setting up in the dark with a toddler doesn't sound like much fun!  😀

I'm going to check DH schedule and see when we might be able to swing a long weekend. I'm not trying (or meaning) to be difficult, we just have to make sure it's feasible for us  🙂

Athread678, I don't think you are being difficult at all. This is the type of input we need. I had not thought about looking at a school schedule. Rachelle and I don't have any kids, so that didn't cross my mind. We live in Smyrna,GA 30082. We are pretty central to most everyone.. We will be taking a day or two off work, so we can drive almost any distance  Where ever we pick and also whenever we will be there.

The only problem with trying to plan the rally during a holiday weekend will be that the camp ground will be super packed and hard for us to all get together.

I agree with all three sentiments.  A)  A holiday weekend would be best for us as DW teaches and DS1 & 2 are in school (plus DH works!)  B)  Arriving and setting up in the dark isn't fun  C)  Holidays will be crowded (but advance reservations solve THAT problem; we just need to do it NOW).

Hey, the best we can do is the best we can do.  Throw it out there and those who can make it will, those who can't will try to catch the next one.  No hard feelings either way.  I think we're all grown adults here, so as long as we make the effort to include as many as possible, I'd say it's a success already.  😉

Hi everyone. GA Judy turned me onto this site. Been a member of PUP for a few years. Me and my wife would love to join you guys if possible. However, due mainly to health problems we have recently gone to the dark side. So i'm not sure how we would fit in with a hardside camper???

Our zip is 36854. The West Point lake Campgrounds like Amity, Whitetail and R Sheafer Heard is right in our backyards. Only a couple of miles down the road. (We love all three btw) Have camped at WindCreek and loved it also. We were not real trilled with Eufaula. (hookups on wrong side)(campground could have been cleaner)(dealt with some rude people)(campground attendants site closed down. Had to go all the way back to marina to handle any business.) We don't mind traveling a few hours. 🙂

Agreed! We'll do what we can... no worries  ;D

I checked DH's schedule and the weekend of April 19-20 would be perfect. It is his Spring Break, so we could possibly turn it into a 3 night event! I'm not sure how that lines up with other counties Spring Break, or in AL for that matter. But, if the CG allows us to book reservations in advance, I can't imagine that we would have a problem.
