I am basically a rookie camper. I camped a few times with my Uncle as a kid and I took my girlfriend camping for the first time last summer with some friends who had an RV. We had a blast and she wants to go camping again this summer but I can't exactly afford an RV so I have been looking for ways to have the same comforts we had last summer only in a tent. Any suggestions ? I really liked the camp kitchen.
Hello and Welcome, Scooter, from a Jersey Girl who lives now in NW Georgia. You can tent in comfort the same (almost) as in an RV unless you have a leak! 😉 That happens in an RV too. Air mattresses inflated with either a foot/hand pump or an electric pump if your site has electric. We used to camp eons ago in a tent and van combo and had a portable Coleman stove (still do), a cooler (but you can plug in a small fridge as well), and water (but you can get that most CGs at the bathhouse, on site, or a community spigot. I'm sure if your girlfriend enjoys camping that anything you guys come up with will be great. If you start out close to home and forget something, you can always go home to get it or go to Walmart or Bradlees (if that is still around).
Most important: Go camping with fun in mind. You will find that human ingenuity compensates for lack of hard goods!
I didn't think it rained when people camp.....I thought it was always sunny and beautiful 🙂 I'm sure we'll have fun. I have a blowup queen air mattress that I can use that is pretty comfy. My mom bought it for when we visit her. I need to figure out how to eat. Our friends had a full kitchen in their RV. It was just like cooking at home. I think it's going to be cereal for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and a steak and potatoes over the fire for dinner. Any other suggestions for food.
Thrift stores are great places to get beginner gear. Mix and match kitchen sets, plastic cups and even real camp things. Also craigslist. Got a nice cabellas kitchen set up at a good price on craigslist. We just spent a weekend at Allaire SP in NJ. Bring your bikes and ride on the trail to Manasquan.
