We were camping 2 weeks ago and had to take our Norwegian Elkhound Ivan to the vet in Fort Payne where he was treated, but the diagnosis was not exactly right and we brought him to our regular vet when we got home. After a long holiday weekend and his steady progression downward, we sadly had to put Ivan to sleep today because of massive heart disease and congestive heart failure. We will miss him and his sweet disposition. He is our 4th Elkhound and only Tasha (who is 12 yrs. old) remains as part of our lives now as we also age and are challenged by ailments. Sigh. Never easy to lose a loved one -- two- or four-legged. RIP across the Rainbow Bridge, dear boy.
Thank you, all, for your kind words. Losing a pet is not easy and as we grieve his loss, we enjoy the memories he left behind. I have been a member of the John Nelsen Moosedog Rescue group (http://www.elkhoundrescue.org) for almost 20 years and this was #5 of my rescues. We just love Norwegian Elkhounds and ther personalities. Our 12 yr. old Elkhound, Tasha, is still with us and we had thought we would lose her. Ivan had congestive heart failure that is not curable and he got bad really fast with fluid backup and distress. It was a blessing to send him to the Rainbow Bridge and that gives us comfort. Thanks again, everyone.
Judy/Al, just saw the news about Ivan, so sorry for your loss. Don't know how I will handle things when it's Musa's time (9 yo). Just found out that one of our kitties has the big "C" and limited time. Will wait until it gets worse before we have to make that decision.
Again, so sorry and love Tasha a lot more.
