Can anyone tell me what vehicle insurance normally covers when towing a trailer? Does it cover anything? I wouldn't except then disconnected at home or at a campground.

It varies with State/province. Best to ask your current auto insurer then SHOP for the best rate/coverage. Most car insurance does not cover trailers. They normally have to be insured separately or in addition to current auto.

GEICO covers the camper when it's connected to the insured TV. At least in my policy and I didn't "upgrade" anything for camper specific.

Our insurance is through State Farm and covers any trailer as long as it's hitched to the tow vehicle. Homeowner's covers it while unhooked at home, so we only had to buy insurance to cover it while it's set up in a campground.

My S/O had a AAA policy. We added my Apache to it before I moved from NC to WA. I'm glad I did. I had a call out early morning in Missoula, MT for a flat tire and lug nuts I couldn't remove.

Since we'll be taking a 2200 mile round trip in a few weeks, I'll be feeling just a little safer with that added luxury.
