Do you sit outside or in your car at the drive in? We sit outside in camp chairs with a blanket.
We have a Jeep Grand Cherokie and I park it all the way forward in the spot with the back facing the screen. We open the tailgate and have our snacks in the back. We sit behind the car or to the side if it's open. The back end is up in the air, so if the grand kids want to lay down in the back they still can see the screen.

In Spain we would take a blanket to sit out. They also had bleacher seating.

Prior to Armed Forces Radio and Television Service, mainly the TV side, the drive in was the happ'n'n place on base for entertainment.

We usually sit outside in camp chairs with a portable radio. We used to sit inside when the little one was a baby, but she likes to watch now too, so out front in the chairs we go 🙂

We usually sit in front of the car. If we take the DW Armada, we sit behind it or lay down inside the hatch. If the weather gets cold or the insects get bad, we will climb inside for the remainder of the show.
