As someone who previously only got out camping once a year or less, I rarely left the campsite or campground when I finally got to go, I enjoyed soaking up all the forest and campfire scents I could handle before it was back to the everyday life. Since getting my camper and finding Canvas Campers I get to go out camping much more often, and am really enjoying leaving the campsite to experience new things.
At the Camp Taylor rally I attended the Lakota Wolf Preserve. While we were there, Becky, one of the owners, told us a story about a town where people sometimes called the police to report a woman being attacked in the woods. The first question the police always asked is if the person on the other end of the phone had just moved to the country after living in the city. It seems that foxes make a sound that sounds just like a woman being tortured and screaming out for help.
Intrigued, I googled it when I got home. This is what I found. (you can skip to about 42 seconds to hear the sounds)
Now back to "Thank goodness I learned that while camping!"
Having spent the last 10 years in my home there's not a lot new around me. Tonight I was just walking my dog near a field, out of nowhere came a blood curdling screech that scared the lights out of me and sent my dog running the other direction. Immediately after I caught my breath I burst out into laughter realizing it was a fox, and I've been warned about that sound!
Thank goodness I learned that while camping!!
