This goes along with the "Getting to Know You" thread. I'd first seen this in our Apache forum. It's pretty amazing what "our friends" do/did to earn their camping money.
I'll start --
20 years active duty sailor in cryptology and electronic warfare on ships, aircraft and a sub as well as shore stations.
Following retirement, the GI Bill and I put myself through culinary school. I worked all positions in restaurants, corporate and healthcare kitchens up to and including kitchen manager, dietary director and chef. As well as personal chef and restaurant consultant/advisor.
My knees got worse (result of Job 1) and I had to give up standing all day for something different. I ended up in the automotive parts and service positions for a small dealership of imported autos. When the banking bust happened, the business closed doors. The GM of the local NAPA contacted me to be their admin assistant. I did that as well as counter and phone sales.
That position was phased out and I landed a job at a Toyota dealership in the parts department.
I moved from NC to WA and was blended into a family. Now I'm a stay at home dad - which I find to be the most challenging and rewarding job I've ever done.
I am one of those JACK OFF ALL TRADES, Master of NONE....
a lot of my extra experience came from picking up 2nd or 3rd part time jobs for extra income
Construction, Restaraunt management, sales, pest control, retail management
many many many years vested in the Laborers Union, last gig before moving was I spent 5 years on the road with a commercial foundation drilling company working on a Drill rig.
we moved down south to be closer to her family with the kiddos, and before my life changing accident, I was waiting on the call for a start date for Law Enforcement. (spent 3 months doing tests, pt, interviews)
all that is on hold until I can walk again....
I spent 32.5 years working for the Correctional Services of Canada (Federal Penitentiaries). Started as a guard, promoted to Classification Officer (sort of a social worker), promoted to Head of Social Development (in charge of Visits, Social Groups, Recreation, Hobbycraft), another promotion to assistant Warden Inmate Programs at Prison for Women and then to Assistant Warden Security at a men's prison. From there I went to Regional Headquarters as Special Projects Officer and then to NHQ in Ottawa as A Project Officer in charge of various functions some of which included Gangs, Use of Force Reviews, Urinalysis, Operation Manuals, Drug Testing and Training, Investigations.
Retired 9 years ago and don't one sweet iota of any of it.
I have been videographer for a pro sports team for the last 20 years. I shoot all games and practices for the coaches and players and breaking down video for them as well. In my spare time I have been a volunteer firefighter for 25 years and I am currently the Fire chief of my department.
DW is the manager of a retail store.
I'm a team lead systems engineer for a software development company. That just means I and/or members of my team go to client sites to install/train/troubleshoot our software, which mostly deals with fast access to imagery. I've been working in the IT field (primarily systems, integration or operations with a tiny bit of software development) for the past 25 years, so I've pretty much done a little bit of everything at this point.
