I started as an auto mechanic in high school at the age of 16. Now at 50 I'm still turning wrenches. I did take a few years off in my 20's and did construction and factory work. I've always  enjoyed the work, but sometimes hate the place I'm doing it.

I am a Computer Network Administrator and Network Engineer (Internet routing) for a large Civil Enginerring company. I manage 40 servers, 300 workstations, 4 locations, and about 27 TB of data.

Outside of work, I was a Paramedic, Flight Instructor (Primary, Instrument and Aerobatics) and Wreck Divemaster for the thousands of wrecks off the New Jersey Coast.

To keep up my skill sets, I am the volunteer back end server administrator for 6 active online forums  (includes CanvasCampers)

I volunteer and am a board member of 2 social service agencies benefiting the LGBT community of Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.

I hate to be bored...

Started after college managing fast food restaurants, which suprisingly I really enjoyed. I did that for 5-6 years, and than short ordered cook in a local bar. My friend's father owned a local auto parts store, and drove part time for them and worked my way up to the parts counter. I worked in auto parts in the commercial sales side of the store for Napa, Pep Boys, and Advance Auto Parts for 10 years, and than finally the money ran out there and now I have been with the NJDOT serving as the supervisor for the parts room in their Cherry Hill garage for the last 9 years.

Best Regards,
Norm

Project Manager/Business Analyst (mostly IT-oriented)

I seem to spend a couple years in the corporate world then go back to non-profit when the rat-race gets to me, and then back to corporate when I need more $$.  😉  Right now I'm at a non-profit in Philly.

I will be filling out all the necessities in the morning to be a substitute teacher.

Hopefully I might be able to work my way into the high school's culinary program.

I just donated approximately 200 professional and off the shelf cookbooks and restaurant operation books to the high school.  I had them, I no longer needed or wanted many of them and they hope to expand to full blown culinary department with their offsite cooking establishment.

I worked up through the ranksand continued going to differnt schools for my EMT certification, haz. mat. tech certification, various specialized rescue training for confine space, rope, trench, building collapse rescues. I filled in as acting Battlion chief for 8 months and later retired as as Captain. I worked on the side doing painting on houses-yuk! Owning a remodeling/home improvement buisness specializing in kitchen/bathroom remodels. After 28 years in the fire service, I am now raising2 grand children at home as a happy house husband. I am leading a food ministry at my church for those who don't have much to eat in the community. My DW is a registered nurse for a hospice company out of Atlanta. I look forward to camping as much as possiable for R&R!

I am retired after moving to GA from FL where I owned and operated a secretarial service for 19 yrs. Prior to that I was an admin. asst. for a division of ITT in Deerfield Beach, FL for a few yrs. where I eventually started and supervised their word processing center; was an office manager at a branch of Provident Mutual in Earth City (suburb of St. Charles, MO); worked as a payroll clerk and personnel secty. at Physicians Mutual in Omaha, NE; worked part-time in high school as a real estate secretary and obtained my real estate license and sold for a couple of years. In between all this, reared three children, put DH through pharmacy school, and had an active social and professional life outside my jobs. I am also an elder in my church, sing in the choir,  and have served on various church committees as well as volunteering at our local food bank. We have 4 grandchildren, the latest of which are 4-mo. old twin grandsons where I babysit with them two (or more) days a week. In between, I still have a couple of opportunities to use my typing, writing, and editing skills - some paid and some not. I have a little business making and selling soy candles focusing on pet memorial candles where I can donate a portion of the proceeds to Norwegian Elkhound Rescue, a group member for over 16 yrs.

We have also used our vacation and retirement times to travel: Turkey, China, Thailand, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Canada, and about 97% of the U.S.

DH is a retired pharmacist as well as former auto mechanic (putting himself through undergrad school), dental tech from the Air Force, sales/installation/uhpholsterer (family business), and started out at age 13 as an apprentice for an electrician.

For the past six years, I've been the Finance and Accounting Manager for a Mid size Bridge and Highway and Marine Contractor.
For eighteen years before I was the Accounting and Systems Manager for a Mid size Public Contractor specializing in School Construction/Renovation.
I was the Hp-Unix And Sun Unix and Microsoft systems Administrator for that company as well.
Prior to that I was the Accounting Manager , then promoted to Sales Manager at a local Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
That was in the late seventies and early eighties, I was using Visicalc (the original spreadsheet) on a 68000 based computer that I bought to do cost calculations on the production line. It loaded programs from a cassette drive, then an 88K single sided 5-1/4" disk drive.
Before the IBM PC, like I said it was a long time ago.

Looking at these occupations I feel we could band together and successfully operate our own society!

For the record, yesterday I was hired at the school district in an open sub position.  This will lead to the culinary department when it expands.  And that, dear friends, is where I want to be.

I'm at home all day ...  I spend 4 days relaxing and doing work around the house, then I sleep for the other 4 days since I have the fun and joy of working nights, 11 hours and 10 minute shifts (with no shift premium might I add)...  Now the shift isn't that bad since we do have 4 days off, but we work Holidays (no extra pay) and in all kinds of weather (except lightening storms) ..  My co-workers and I do this (thankless) job night after night to keep the friendly skies friendly, and to keep aircraft from crashing into your house while you sleep...
