I went camping with a friend last year and he wanted to help set up. I should have known better, but I didn't. :- We raised the roof, opened the bunk ends, pulled the canvas over the corners, placed the bed support bars down, etc. I then went in side to install the sheppard poles and didn't notice that the canvas was pulled down to low on the corners of the one bunk, sooooo... when I pushed the cross bar into place with the sheppards pole, there wasn't enough canvas fabric and the cross bar bent/kinked. :banghead: It isn't broken and I bent it back straight but was hoping the reinforce it. Any ideas?
WARNING: If you are ever forcing something on a camper, something is wrong and it will break.
Those crossbars are really just galvanized electrical conduit or "pipe", if i'm not mistaken. What about cutting the pipe and inserting a hardwood dowel just a pinch smaller as a splice? Still thinking about my theory as I type. If you've got an electrician friend with a pipe bender you could probably fabricate a new crossbar.
