you heard me.  I'm missing a leg.

wait, no,

What has three feet and rolls?  My camper.

OK, I'm missing a leveling leg/foot. The previous owner said the feet "were a pain in the @ss" and cut one off.  My dad has said that I can use multiple pieces of wood, and put the front end low using the (is it a brain fart if I simply don't know the term?) tongue hitchey wheel thingy (afraid to camp next to me yet?).  He said to put that low so I can put the wood under the back bumper/frame where the feet are missing, then I can let it down, and use the remaining three feet to continue stabilizing it.  Although I'm sure it would work, this seems like a PITA to me. After all, I'm a female who loves the color pink, and my friends are more girly than me.  Think about asking your DW's to do this.  8)

He says new legs would have to be welded on, so that's not an option.  I know they make scissor jacks, but they aren't cheap. Is there something more affordable?  Why can't I just use a car jack in that corner?

Here is a stabilizer jack at Harbor Freight for $32.99, http://www.harborfreight.com/2.....96406.html and I believe you said you live in West Chester, and there is a store in Downingtown, which is avbout 6 miles away. DOWNINGTOWN PA #344 12 QUARRY ROAD, UNIT G2 DOWNINGTOWN, PA 19335, Located in Brandywine Square. They always have 20% off coupons in the store flyers, magazines etc, so take a ride down there.

I'm not 100% sure I'm on the same page and even though we're glad you are coming to the spring rally, I'm a little glad my campers not down hill from you.

I think you are talking about stabilizers and there are a few options. (etrailer, harbor freight or pplmotorhomes)
http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/pics/T/J/TJ01RT_tn.jpg

Pull Down - $17

http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/pics/J/S/JSC-24_tn.jpg

Scissor Jack - $36 depending on the size

http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/pics/U/F/UF48-979003_tn.jpg

Stackable Stabs - $18

Traditional Stabs on many pop-ups - $55

You can always use wood blocks but you would need to low the opposite side of the camper to put the wood under.

Check out these RV JACK STANDS .  I have 2 you can borrow for French Creek to decide if that is what you want or if you want to do something else.

Your fathers theory of lowering the front and putting some wood under the back corner without the stabilizer will work.  It will add a few more moments to the setup time.

Don't worry, I am staying next to you and I'm not afraid......Do you mind if I set a video camera up while you set your camper up?  It sounds like it could be interesting  ;D

I have a feeling mariskahargitay will soon be an expert on pop ups. I think the stackable stabs Joe posted for approx $18 would be your best bet, no welding required. Level your camper from side to side first, using simple stackable boards, or a bal leveler if available, under the tire on the lowest side when you get to your site. Then level front to back with the tongue jack. Set your 3 usable stabilizer jacks snug to the ground and then add the stackable jack at the corner where one is missing. You'll be good to go.
I do think the previous owner of your camper was not at all honest with you by saying he removed it because it was a PITA - I think he screwed it up somehow and was too dishonest to admit his stupidity. Karma will get him eventually.
You're doing great by asking questions here so just keep learning and I'm sure your camper is in better hands than it ever was with the previous owner. I know you'll have great times with it. Best of luck.
By the way, did your refrigerator work after testing and cleaning per your previous post

Thanks all for your help.  I'm beat and on my way to bed now, but I can't wait to look into all the solutions you all sent me tomorrow!

As for the fridge, it's not looking great. It's such a pain because I can only visit my camper on weekends  :-[ But my dad leveled the camper (it wasn't level before) and left the fridge on overnight.  He said something was warm, but the fridge inside wasn't cold.  I'm still holding onto hope...

Agree with IA Poppers and Lone Lock on the RV jack stands. They're lightweight, reasonably priced and real easy to use. We used a set with one of our previous PUPs even though it had stabilizers installed. They were the pull down Atwood style and I was never real fond of them. The jack stands did a much better job.

If your PUP has the traditional style, like the last pic in JoeCamper's post, a replacement is bolted on, not welded. http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/lehigh-valley-rv-show-jacks/light-trailer-jacks.htm. You'd just have to look at a corner that still has a jack to make sure the previous owner didn't screw up the mounting points when he [s]forgot to raise it before driving away[/s] removed it.

If the coils on your fridge (the black finned part in the outside compartment) are getting warm it's working, at least to some degree. You'll really need to stick a thermometer inside to see what it's doing, but it sounds like it might be OK.

And I'd say hang on to taht thermometer, and keep it in fridge when in use.  Then you know your food is staying cold.

Absolutely! Temps in an RV fridge can fluctuate quite a bit throughout the day. We use a wireless indoor outdoor thermometer http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12476151.

I plan on testing the fridge for real starting on the 15th  😉

The pull down stabs are what my camper has now.

John, now that you explain how he could have broke them, I guess you and poppers are right.  The remaining back leg is screwed up, so that's gotta be right.

I'm reallllly hoping to have won the BAL leveler. If I do, I think I may spring for the scissor RV jack stands.

If not, I'll probably go with the cheaper stackable ones.  They look more annoying to store/use, but are better on the budget and will match the homemade wood leveler I'll be using.

Like I said, I have 2 stackable RV jackstands you can borrow for the trip to see what you think of them and choose if you want those or the scissor type jacks.  Personally I didn't think they were annoying to store.  Honestly I had 4 at one time.  I recently tripped over 2 of them.  I don't know if I have the other 2 stored in my pup or if I left 2 with the pup I sold.  If I have 4, I'll sell you 2.  I want to keep 2 because sometimes my stabs are a PIA and if they don't come down one time, I'll need the jackstands.

If you aren't sure of the fridge.....I would suggest taking a cooler for your food.  Plug the fridge in and test it with a few drinks in there, but don't gamble with your food.

Matt, That would be great if I could borrow your stands for the French Creek trip.  Then I can make a more educated purpose and know what I'm buying will last me a while.

As for the fridge, I'd definitely going with a cooler (or two, or three).  The fridge is small anyways, and a cooler just seems easier.  But I'm really hoping not to need to depend on ice come summer! Good call on keeping the thermometer in there!

I figure I'll probably go with these for $32 + free shipping on amazon if I like the style.

I'm not sure if your old stabs were scissor or the traditional arm stabs but I ripped a traditional arm stab off backing into a friends driveway at night.  One of my SPUTs I have each year.  The part that was welded to the frame was fine and I could screw the new one in place without any tools.  You'd have to look up under the camper and maybe take a few pictures?

The nice part with some models is that there are permanently attached and less things you need to remember to grab and find room for each trip.

That is great news! You'll be happy with those, I believe. They are easier to use than the pull-down stabs installed on your PUP.

My 30y old camper has the pull down ones.  But they are rustier than ever (prior owner never used them) and damaged.  I used the CALMCO ones and works FINE! Once I get to greasing and derusting the pull down ones or/and replacing them.  I think the old ones have limited adjust-ability so might go for another style.

A note about the fridge: load it with cold or frozen bottles of water to start with and a thermometer. Turn it on. See what happens. My fridge always cools better when it's full of already cold items. It takes much longer when it starts with items that were room temperature.
