Carefree of Colorado http://www.carefreeofcolorado......egoryid=43 makes an aftermarket lift but I don't think it will work with a Coleman system. Our Niagara has an electric lift that, I believe, used to be available through Fleetwood/Coleman dealers, but they are an extinct breed.
I don't know of any option besides the cordless drill.

I only wish we could add a motorized lift to our 85 Coleman. We have replaces all the cables and lube the wiffle tree and all the pulley's every time we go out. And its still hard to raise. You have to get a good momentum going to get that roof up. The camper is doing a good dance by the time its up. (I think it would be easier with out the roof AC).
We bought the Hitachi that was recommended on the other pop up forum and used a 5/8th deep well socket and used a grinder to make the slots and it fits perfect. but it's still hard to raise the roof easy. Make sure you use the side handle on the drill. Or it will snap your wrist. My husband prefers to just do it by hand.
Any one figures out how to put a motorized lift on a 85 Coleman, let me know please.

I was thinking cordless drill too. Couldn't I use corded though too? Just where to find the bit...
Sure, a corded drill will work just fine. Cordless has become so common that a corded drill isn't something that's in most toolboxes any longer. Cordless is also popular since not all campsites have electric.
You can get the socket at http://www.rvworkshop.com/index.php/categories/socket-jenie
I just saw that the company that makes the Socket Jenie also makes a powered lift that they say has been successfully installed on Colemans. Info is at http://www.customcylindersintinc.com/roof_jenie.htm. Kinda salty if you spring for the powered system.

Cordless drill works great to put the stabilizers down as well. I use a regular socket for that but I can't remember the size of the socket.
3/4"

You know Mike, That is what we were thinking. We would have to add a battery and all and then might still have issues.
My brother had a hi low and it was electric and half the time it didnt work. Such a pain.
So I'm looking forward to taking the pup apart starting tonight. And really hoping a new chain will fix the issue. Then I can just use the new drill I bought to raise it. Will keep yall posted.
I have some other mods planned for it when I get it open. like a stove cover for the stove we replaced. And a sink cover.
