I know this has been addressed somewhere, I just can't seem to locate it.  I want to look into getting a cordless "device" for raising the top on my Viking.  my back is just not up to the task anymore.  the comments I saw long ago said something about gearing/power, etc.  I don't want to go to the "dark side", and get a TT, cause then I'd have to get a bigger truck.  That, and I'm trying to retire, so, I don't want to shell out any more $$.  (btw, there's no a/c on the roof)

People have used cordless drills successfully.  I never used one but I do know you do not want to use an impact driver.....the back and forth really messes up the lift system.

I too have never used a drill on our old pup, but have read many places the lowest you want is 18 volts, 24 volts prefered..  Also try to find one that has metal gears instead of plastic for durability..

Is anyone familiar with the Kobalt 24v?  650-in-lbs of torque, side handle, storage bag?  looks like it will fit the bill.

finding the socket jenie locally is proving to be a p.i.t.a.  I may have to get a socket and ext, weld them together, cut a slot and grind three flat spots.  be cheaper than $28 buy to buy a SJ.

i have a jayco 1206 with a/c on the roof and i use a 14.4v dewalt cordless drill and it raises the roof with no problems.  my 14.4v raises the roof better than my 18v, but the battery is older on the 18v.
