Just want to throw it out, that we will be camping at FDR State Park in GA. from October 11 until the 15th. I haven't been to Warm Springs GA, since I was in elementary school (boy was that a long time ago). Looking forward to seeing the Little White House, Callaway Gardens and the Wild Animal Safari nearby. Super excited that we can now camp in most any type weather with the trailer and not have to worry (too much) about the outside elements. This will be fall break for the kids around here, great time for a little vacation!
So if anyone's looking for a new place to camp, come look us up at FDR. Come join us!
It is a great CG larry. We were there for 4 nights in June and loved it. The sites are really big and the facilities are immaculate. There is also a safari that you can take the kids on pretty close. Word of caution if you have not been there. Spend the $15 and use one of their vans, or kiss your mirrors goodbye. The bigger animals stick their heads through the windows to get the treats that you buy at the beginning. They will team up and while one blocks your vehicle, their friends surround you until you release the goodies. You will get some great pictures of the kids when a buffalo with a 2' tongue sticks it's head in and won't leave until you feed it.
We have reservations for October there again. Can't wait!
Nancy, I think you'll love FDR, especially that time of year - the leaves should be beautiful. We stayed there the first weekend of June and really enjoyed it. We found the campground a bit difficult to navigate (especially since we arrived in the dark) but very we'll maintained and we got the hang of its layout eventually.
It's funny you mentioned the rally, because William and I thought the same thing. The one big problem though is that you can't reserve specific sites :-[ which is the case at a lot of CG. I would love to discuss the possibility of changing the rally location for Spring though, if for nothing more than to see new CGs. I'll definitely bring it up at the rally.
Hope you guys enjoy!!

This is the case for ALL Georgia State Park campgrounds. If one wanted to have a rally, perhaps you could contact the park personally and ask if you could arrange to have a certain "block" of sites, or maybe even an entire loop if the cg is arranged with multiple loops. The campground managers have some leeway that way and it would be a total shot in the dark whether they'd be willing to allow that or not. All you can do is ask.
FDR sounds like a GREAT cg from your descriptions above; I'm going to add it to our punch list. It's just so far away for us (weekend campers) until arriving late on Friday would be an understatement. Maybe I can take off at noon one Friday........ YEAH! That's the ticket. 🙂
