We're looking at potential extended weekend camping dates of June 5-9, July 3-7, July 18-21.  Anybody up for some camping those weekends?  We're open to suggested destinations.  For the July 4th weekend, we'd like to be within striking distance of Atlanta so we can go off and run the Peachtree Road Race.  We would also like to head back to Vogel State Park at some point this summer to enjoy it during warm weather (last visit was sub-freezing at Thanksgiving).

Jason, We might be game on a weekend or two. My wife started a new job, so we have to see what weekends she has to work and when she will be off. I am sure we will camp with Mtnkube some as well and I will PM when you when we decide to go as well to Riverbend campground. I'm sure others might want to join as well! Fw Arcadia is planning some camping time some as well!

We have several state parks right around us we plan on using this year. No power or septic but have put house and common water spigot. Usually about $12 a night. Good for short weekends. Let me know if your interested

We usually camp at least once a month. We've already made reservations for FDR the first weekend in June, but we'd love to meet up with you guys and camp for an extended weekend!! DH is a teacher, so we love long weekends in the summer  ;D

MtnKube,
Are you talking about US Forrest Service campgrounds?  ...like these?

I would be very interested in trying some of these. Lake Winfield Scott and Dockery Lake look particularly interesting.  Ever been to those?

AThread678,
Hmm...  FDR in June?  Sounds warm, but it might be a possibility.  I'll check with DW.

Awesome! Yes, we would be game for trying the USFS campgrounds! I see that as "trying something different," which we would like to do. It's maybe even a step in the direction of boondocking (something else that I would eventually like to try.)

Ok, now that school is over, we're getting serious about thinking about camping this summer.  First up is next weekend (arriving Thursday the 6th, departing Sunday the 9th).  We don't have reservations anywhere right now and we are fairly flexible.  Vogel doesn't have any availability that weekend.  But here are some options that I found when looking last night.

[li]Lake Winfield Scott (Forest Service campground) has some reservations available on the south loop, plus the north loop (not reservable) would probably have walk-up sites available. Cost is $15/night.  [/li]
[li]Dockery Lake (Forest Service campground) is also a walk-up option.  Cost is $8/night. [/li]
[li]Amicalola State Park looks like it has two campsites available through that weekend (Thursday and Friday nights have plenty of availability, Saturday just has two sites available).  Cost is $28/night. [/li]
[li]Doll Mountain (Carter's Lake, Core of Engineers) looks like it has 10 sites available; $24/night. [/li]
[li]F. D. Roosevelt State Park has lots of sites available. Cost is $28/night. [/li]
[li] Red Top Mountain State Park has 6 sites available at $28/night. [/li]

Anyone interested in doing some camping with us?  We're open to suggestions.

Athread678, are you guys still planning to go to FDR the weekend of the 8th?

BoomJammer - I am going to respond for AThread and let  you know that they are at FDR this weekend.  They have a family reunion on Saturday so decided to make it a camp weekend.

Thanks for the info, Melinda. I guess that free's us up to focus on the more northerly options next weekend.

Yeah, one of our favorite family campgrounds has some spots available this weekend. We'll be in site 32  at Victoria Campground (Core of Engineers) on Lake Allatoona, checking in on Thursday afternoon and staying thru Sunday morning. There are still some great campsites available and we would welcome company from CanvasCampers!

We'll be at Fort Yargo July 11-15. It's a GA State Park, so we don't have a reserved site until we get there. Y'all come!

Ok, Victoria Campground was great a few weeks ago.

We spent this past weekend at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Bremen, GA.  We had a lot of fun!

I think we are not going to camp over the Independence Day holiday weekend, instead we'll spend it visiting with family.

But we've made our reservations for our next camping event: we'll be at Vogel State Park, arriving on Thursday July 18 and leaving on Sunday the 21st.  It looks like there are a couple of sites still available if anybody wants to join us.  We would welcome any visitors!

Definitely we will be at Fort Yargo with a couple others from July 11-15 in case anyone wants to join us!

Jason/boomjammer, have fun. That is a great park with beautiful, large sites.

We're going to check on those dates for Yargo. We're just around the corner, so at the very least we'll come by and say "hi" maybe cookout one night. I'll let y'all know what we find out 🙂
