I saw a SUV and camper on the side of the road this morning on my way to work and it made me think about roadside assistance.  Do you have it?  Was it part of your insurance or an added extra?  Have you  ever used it?  They must send two vehicles out, one for the TV and one for the camper.

I remember asking my Dad about AAA when I first got my license.  His response " If your car breaks down, take the plates and anything you can carry and start walking".

I am driving a better vehicle these days so I have AAA but I need to call to check if the trailer is covered.  I have heard stories that it isn't with certain packages.

If you have a Progessive RV policy, its included for $3. It is RV specific, they know they might have to deal with more than one vehicle and if you call they ask if its the popup/lehigh-valley-rv-show or the TV.

I had AAA, but they don't cover all areas with their RV coverage so I ended up going with Good Sam's ERS and they cover all my vehicles as well. I also have it through Progressive with my insurance and I am an AMA member, so I have coverage through there as well. I think I am covered on all counts. Oh and I got 1 year free with my purchase of my PUP through Coach Net. Haven't used any of them yet and hope not to.

Best Regards,
Norm

acenorm,

I had the same situation with AAA. They are franchises and all of them don't have the AAA RVplus. However, the neighboring AAA in my state did have RV plus coverage. I called the neighboring AAA to see if
I could get the RV plus from them. They told me that I would have to call my local AAA and explain to them that I was going to another company if I couldn't get the RV plus and the other AAA had it.
I asked them for a release and they faxed it to me, which I then faxed to the out of my area AAA, I have been with them ever since and am very happy with knowing that if I broke down, both the truck and trailer wwold be towed under the policy.

I do have AAA specifically for my recent cross-country journey and RV (pup) towing.  It is area specific.  Since I was coming to WA I got AAA-WA.  I had an issue in Montana in which I called AAA.  Based on my cell's area code, my call went to NC.  That was useless.  I actually had to get the WA AAA to contact a Montana tow truck.

I had AAA for a few years (didn't have a trailer then) but dropped them because of the position (against) they took on  Rails-to-Trails and other public use trails which I support.  Just started Good Sam last week.  I thought the price was better for myself, DW, and trailer.

Our new camper came with a subscription for one year of roadside assistance. I'm not sure what the cost will be after a year but after reading this I think I'll check with our insurance company to compare.  $3.00 - $6.00 per six months seems like a very good deal.
