All the TIME!  I love the better prices on larger packages of meat.  So, I break packages down into meal size portions and even marinate or dry rub before sealing it up.  Can also do already cooked Items.  Have even done lasagna.  Put it in bag, freeze, then vacuum.  This way the shape and such is maintained.  I never learned to can, so I also do fruit, veggie relish, soups, etc in vacuum bags.  Put in bag, place in freezer till froze or almost froze, seal em up.  Works great, and when you go to thaw out, no leaks or messes.  Works great for camping too, premarinate your steaks, chicken, etc, seal the bag(do not necessarily need to freeze it).  Now you don't have to worry about mess in cooler or fridge.  I have already brought fillet of salmon frozen and sealed in bag, put it in ice chest, cook 2nd evening and throw out the bag, you've thrown out the smell this way too.

I will look into one of these on 1/7.....the day after I move and we have a nice big kitchen that I can store a device like this.  I like the BJ's family packs of meat as well and usually use zip locks.....we've lost a few items to freezer burn  🙁

How do the vacuum bags do when the go for a swim in the bottom of the cooler?

I've always wanted one.  Many times I'm cooking for one but buys family packs of everything.

I used to shop at BJ's all the time when I was single.  Of course I would wind up having pork chops or chicken legs for a week straight  😮

Regular meats are fine, even floating or held down. I would not let cheese or lunchmeat go that way though. Cheese just doesn't do well immersed.

DW & I purchased a discontinued model from Brandsmart that is still available on the FoodSaver web site. We saved $100 on the unit. We also bought the extra marinating container and 2 extra containers that were all marked down. Last night we went sealing crazy playing with the bags. We also looked in to a wholesale club account. After seeing the bulk meats & poultry we had a change of heart. We usually purchase our food from Whole Foods; they only sell products that don't use GMO's, anitibiotics and hormones that is 100% organic and pesticide free. Grass feed beef, not corn fed. I think we'll stick to that and leave that weird meat & poultry at the wholesale clubs for our health sake. But love this machine.

Love it - been through several in the last 10 years or so.  I use the precut bags mostly for 2-3 portions, but have used the rolls and cut my own for vacuum storage of winter/summer clothing I don't want mice to nest in when storing in my shed, etc.  I also vacuum pack my camper linens and replace in the PUP.

The oval rubber ring needs to be cleaned thoroughly and inspected every use.  Just one speck of something can keep the bags from vacuuming/sealing properly.  I also run my fingernail over the 'iron' wire that melts the plastic as sometimes there's a slight buildup after doing a few bags.
