Memorial Day weekend just about everyone will be at at least 1 BBQ.....sometimes more than one. So, Camping, hosting a BBQ, or attending another BBQ, what is on the menu? :chef: What do you prefer to not see at a BBQ? What makes you jump for joy?
I am hosting a BBQ at my house and I'm going to have the traditional hamburgers and hot dogs but I am also going to have some chicken legs as well, this way I'm offering another meal option for those attending multiple BBQ's.
This season I have started making my own burger patties. I bought a hamburger press and mix the chop meat with various ingredients. I have added gravey master, onions, garlic, onions, wine, experimenting. I think I am going to keep it simple with just onions and maybe some worchestire sauce.
I discovered Dietz and Watson Hot Dogs last summer. They are gooooood  . I like to cook a hot dog, not just warm it up. I love the way they split....to me that is the mark of perfection if it is done with out making them black.
The chicken legs are just going to be the jumbo pack from BJ's. I'll have some BBQ sauce and Hot Wing sauce that people can put on what they choose.
I will definetly fire up the charcoal and cook on that. I love charcoal at a BBQ.
I also love the smell of grilled sausage. Didn't make it on my menu this time, but you can't do everything every time.
I find it difficult to watch someone grill when they have no clue about cooking. For some reason it seems to be "the guys job" to grill. But sometimes they are clueless :dunno: and it is painful to watch them cook. Sometimes it gets funny when his wife comes over and "suggests" that he flip the meet at this time or that time or "Here is the cheese so you can ADD it now". You know the guy is just the puppet and the wife is really doing the cooking.
So, what are you grillin' ?

I had a teacher in college who was a cook in the Military (don't remember what branch). He said they had steak in the fridge and no chop meat. The menu called for burgers. He thought they would be having the steak. Nope, his superior told him to grind up all the steak and make burgers. Something about no matter what base you were on, everyone ate the same thing. I have a meat grinder on my mix master. I wonder if I could do that at home.
Brats.....Don't know why but I don't think I have ever had one. I see them in the store but I never seem to pick them up. One of these days I will have to try grilling a brat.

There's a block party in town Saturday evening, so we'll find something there for supper ... or just graze from one booth to the next! 🙂 Don't know what Sunday holds, but we'll probably get the kayaks out somewhere, maybe a trip on the creek, so any meal that falls into that time slot will be sandwiches and fruit.
On Monday we'll be dining courtesy of the Friends of Swatara State Park, eating barbeque chicken with our son, daughter-in-law & grandson. DW's father & his lady friend might join us, too, so we'll have a nice quiet Memorial Day. Or at least as quiet as things can be with a 3-year-old around the house!

My wife packed our hybrid fridge with all kinds of stuff. We are camping Friday thru Tuesday. Meals are hot dogs/burgers w beans, sausage patties with salad, chicken and veges over the fire, Pork loin marinated in BBQ, chicken breast pre-washed marinated with italian dressing, and who knows what else. I cant see what esle she jammed in there.
I am getting hungry :chef: I bought my meat yesterday but I am gambling on getting the buns on Sat morning. I didn't want to get them yesterday only to have them not be fresh on Sunday.

How was your BBQ? :chef:
I'm still a rookie when it comes to Charcoal so I got my coals too hot. I had to spend some extra attention turning those chicken legs to keep them from burning.....but they came out darn good. I must have went to grab another beer while the hot dogs were on, they had a few dark spots but they too were darn good. As I typically do, I bought more food than I needed, however I cooked the perfect amount.....except for a few chicken legs which were lunch on Monday....still darn good. It will be burgers and hot dogs for dinner this week ::)
