We don’t have any dates yet, just an idea for a destination.

Cindy (Mariska Hargitay) and I were talking about my recent trip to Ricketts Glenn State Park in PA to do the waterfalls hike with my family.  She really wants to do that hike, it is really beautiful.  The lake is gorgeous as well with a very nice beach.  The Ricketts Glenn campground is very nice with some sites on the water.  Here comes some of the pitfalls…..the campground does not have electric and the hike is difficult with many stairs…..it ain’t easy.  From the cabins we did 6 miles in 5 hours doing a loop, down one river and waterfalls, and up another set.  This fat guy and his 4 year old son did it so it is possible.  The campground is also at the top of the mountain which is an 18% grade.  So you either struggle up the mountain with your camper or they recommend driving 45 minutes out of your way and coming down the mountain to get to the campground.

Cindy and I have discussed a couple of things regarding this.  1-personally I have done the hike twice, I’m not doing it again.  But there is some easy hiking at the bottom of the mountain that has tall trees and I think 1 waterfall.  2-run a car to the bottom of the mountain before the hike starts so you only have to go down the mountain, not back up.  3- Stay at a campground outside of the park.  Cindy knows someone who knew someone who was 2nd cousins twice removed with the neighbor of the owner of Goods Campground (or something like that).  We could stay there or another campground in the area.  That would give us electric and save us from driving up the mountain with our campers.

Here is a video of my first trip and the hike in 2011.

I would camp at any campground in the area but I have done the hike twice.  I'll do it again when Nathan is in the Boy Scouts.  I want to see the other parts of the park.

My family has a cabin about 15 minutes from here, I grew up at Ricketts Glenn.  These pics are from this summer.

We have often left a vehicle at the bottom of the falls and only hiked down them.

There 2 waterfalls and a swimming hole below the main trail, across route 118. (see pics)

Good's CG is not your typical place: no quite time, loud radios and they sell and support the use of fireworks all year.  Bring ear plugs or you won't sleep until 5am

I already had Ricketts Glenn on my to-do list, but after seeing the video, it's now on my must-do list.  I'm doing this in 2014!

So it looks like 3 people are willing to camp at Ricketts Glenn without electric, 2 would like to have electric at the bottom of the hill.  Right now it looks like it wouldn't be a full fledged rally, but maybe just a gathering of CanvasCamper people  :)  Anyone have any suggestions of dates?

How about May 16-18th?  Between mother's day and memorial day.  April showers bring May flowers...nice falls.

I have a wedding to attend in May sometime....I think the end.  If the wedding isn't that weekend I'm good.  I'm the official free videographer so I gotta show up.

I was thinking May too.  Then I'll have camping set up for March, April and May.  This makes a happy Cindy!

I'd likely tent and not tow (assuming my camper even survives the winter) so for me a nice site is more important than electric.
Happy Camping -Cindy

Looks like this may turn into more than a gathering of CanvasCamper friends....this could be a real Rally

Is everyone cool with dry camping in the State Park or should we look at private campgrounds in the area?  Personally I am fine dry camping.  I have a strong battery in my RV and I can use my son's powerwheels batteries to run my CPAP.  There is no cell phone coverage in the area so you don't have to worry about charging your cell phone.
