Thinking about changing your junk thermostat to a better digital thermo?  Home Depot has a filtrete non programmable thermostat for $12.  Sounds like a great spring mod.

I did that mod last Spring with that exact thermostat.  Word of warning to the Fleetwood owners, it is too big to fit in the indented space that the old thermostat comes out of.

Greg,
What did you do since the space was to small?  Do you have a picture?

I'm going to semi-hijack this thread!!! I had a couple of Honeywell MagicStat CT3000 laying around so I swapped it out with the Atwood T-Stat in the camper. All works well until it reaches temp...........then it doesn't want to shut off....just keeps heating and heating until you just can't stand it anymore and you have to turn it off. I have yet to figure this one out.

I was just looking at the other MagicStat that I have in the house and it has a "fuel Switch" on the back that is in the F position. Does anyone know if this needs to be switched from F to E to work in our Jayco? I'm at a loss............never claimed to be an HVAC man!!!

I have a question.  Are you switching from a digital thermostat to a programable digital thermostat?  Why do you need a programable one?  Are you going to set it so the heat runs when you go to bed, lowers, and then turns on before you wake up?  I installed a programable one when I did the mod in my pup but that was because they only had programable ones.

My old one in the camper was not digital and the MagiStat we replaced it with is just a one we had lying around the house after replacing the ones in the house with new ones.

Our thermastat is right by the door... just wondering if moving it to a different location might help it to run less... I think the opening and closing of the door puts cold outside air on it and it has a hard time reaching the set temp. Any thoughts? Anyone ever moved theirs to a diff spot? If so where?

Is this mod worth it?  Has anyone done it to Coleman Niagara?  I may do this if it is really worth it.  The current t stat is about 6 inches off the floor.  I know heat rises so it could be anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees warmer at head level in the trailer then the floor.
