What a rainy, sunny, rainy, repeat .... weekend at Fort Yargo, which is, I believe, one of the older state parks in the Georgia system. There are two campgrounds: #1 has lakeside lots (but less than a dozen), and #2 wooded lots. The sites are not as large as other state parks where we have camped, but they were well maintained and laid out for easy back in/out with some pull thrus. We were on site #5, which I do not recommend even though it has a beautiful lakefront view. Sites more into the center of the loop were nicer. Our site was bordered by a gravel maintenance road that led to one of the CG hosts, tent sites (which were really pretty on the lake), walk-in for groups, and two restrooms with a shower in each. The other restroom up the hill and around the corner had more facilities and the laundry, but it was too far for those at the bottom of the loop. The constant foot and vehicle traffic on Thurs. & Fri. was distracting, to say the least. The trails in the park are nice, but because of the rain on and off (downpours), we only walked one trail (yellow) and it was nice and well maintained.

We did not find the office/ranger staff to be helpful because they did not direct us (nor did we ask!) which way to the CG. I think because the Governor of Georgia was headed our way, they were happy to get us checked in and out the door before the motorcade showed up. Consequently, we drove straight from the office (instead of making the right turn to the CGs) and into the public areas. These were really nice: miniature golf, big playgrounds, amphitheater, the old Fort Yargo (interesting for about 35 minutes) where they do hold demonstrations (not this weekend), and loads of day use picnic areas.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being excellent, we would rate this park a 6 out of 10, only because of the high speed bumps/humps where we dragged our hitch trying to get to the gray water dump stations - both inside speed hump areas,  the smaller sites with little privacy between, plus the limited lakeside camp sites.

The small fort (which could hold up to 10 or 15 people) was set up well with plaques and photos of what it looked like inside, and there was an outdoor kitchen and behive oven along with a smokehouse with photos. I think the live demos would be very interesting with reenactors in their "authentic" clothing of the time.

The town of Winder is only abut a mile from the front gate of the CG, and WalMart is down a few miles on the right (May Street intersection) with a fantastic restaurant on the frontage: FATZ. Highly recommenced!!
