I'm a teacher and history buff and we have the Gettysburg Battlefield on our list of places that we'd like to camp at next year.  Has anyone camped at a historical area?  Tell us about your trip and include photos if you can.

Gettysburg is our first trip of the season every year, we stay at the KOA. We go Mother's Day weekend and usually have the W/E sites to ourselves. We also have camped at Hagerstown KOA to visit Antietam a few years ago. We have been trying to get to Fredericksburg one of these years, but something always happens. I want to do a September/October trip there.

Best Regards,
Norm

Part of the reason I sold DW on camping is that I said we could see so much with a camper -vs- going to Disney every year (although we will go to Disney) and staying in a hotel.  On a whim we could go to Gettysburg, the PA Grand Canyon, battlegrounds, etc.  Many campgrounds have local little history and museums to check out nearby.  French Creek SP in PA has Hopewell Furnace.

I did go to Gettysburg last year.  We enjoyed it.  We think we brought a ghost home with us.  Our dog was majorly freaked out staring at something  :tease: in our bedroom when we returned.  Our bedside light also turned on by itself :- .

I live near Valley Forge but there is no camping in the local area.  We have camped near Gettysburg, Daniel Boone Homestead, Pine Grove Furnace Iron Works, Hopewell Furnace but haven't made as much time as I wish to visit them while there.

I love history.  I have a BA in American History and love to stop and check out anything that has do with it.  We have camped around Ohiopyle a few times and always go to Fort Necessity and things about the National Road http://www.nationalroadpa.org/ as well as General Bradock's grave.

Can't say I've been out that way in years, but I can remember hitting so many of those places, camping in the old canvas tent with the family, when I was little.  Sure does bring back a lot of memories hiking around Gettysburg.  Glad to hear so many of you are still doing those things and places with your kids!  Good on ya!
