Why is it that NY has the infinite wisdom to close or partial close one of the only draws to this state?  It is a crying shame as we have great state parks.

State taxes are earmarked for other things - unfortunately.

Its still in the planning stages yet.  But their budget was cut.  Most parks are at capacity all the time so why turn away money and they are not cheap.

We just reserved labor day at Robert Treman SP.  I hope it doesn't close..
We searched min 15A and pet, and only had 3 choices.    9 month limt to reserve, and in 8 months and 10 days all but 3 were left.
Site 1A 40ft, moderate grade, no way.    Site 2A 20ftm, or Site 3A 30ft.
We went with 3A.
Hopefully it remains open.  The kid is staying home, but this one isn't missing out:http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx205/PAthwacker/IMG_0352.jpgImage Enlarger

There was a article in the Rochester NY paper about the state parks.  In a nutshell they had 1 million more visitors than the previous year.  This was even after the false start after their budget was cut and then restored.  I hope the new governour is smart enough to understand the impact of tourism!

There were several articles about this when the 2010 budget was released in 2009.  There are many parks that make money, and many that lose money.  The parks that are slated to close are those that typically cost more money to operate than they receive in revenue.  I don't believe that recreation and tourism should be a profitable enterprise, but I also believe that NYS has to practice some fiscal responsibility and we do need to cut back on most expenditures to bring the budget under control.  We really can't pick and choose to keep our favorite programs and cut those we don't like, ultimately this will always be a losing proposition.

The best way to keep campgrounds and parks open is to visit often and encourage others to do the same.

A article in the D&C in Rochester stated that there would be NO park closings this year.  So i guess its up to us to get people out and increase visitors by 2 million this year.  So everyone visit your favorite state park in the state you live in.  Also get out visit new parks  and find a new favorite.

NY SP's got all my camping business last year, and by looking at things will probably get about 50% of my camping funds again this year.
