My husband has been looking at a electric cooler at a pawn shop but I am wondering if a small fridge wouldn't be more economical.....the small fridges with a freezer can be picked up for next to nothing and the freezer section could save some money on ice purchases during summer camping trips( and you can put freezy pops in there too)......last trip i bought two bags of ice a day and that added up quick $wise!  I could always go with the 5 day cooler route but I find I lose alot of food due to water getting in my ziplocs, etc after a few days so I prefer a little fridge to be honest.....Any comments or suggestions? Anybody just LOVE their electric cooler? 😀

PS ...we camp at state parks where electric hookup is available

A previous owner had taken out the 3-way fridge in our  :chief: Apache.  We have a small dorm fridge with very small freezer in there.  That li'l sucker works WELL.  Our first trip, not knowing how it would be, I cranked the cold to max.  Stuff under and near the freezer froze.  I now know that should I need more freezer space, it's available.

Obviously the downside to any electric only fridge in the pup is that it's practically useless on the road.  I don't mind.  We need only a cooler with ice to "get there" and, depending on how much was packed, come home.

We've got a little dorm fridge as well as the 3-way that came with the pup.  The dorm fridge works very well, and the heat from the coils is negligible inside the pup.  We've found the same as Steve, stuff around the little freezer stays frozen.  Very useful for, as you mentioned, freezy pops, and ice cream for the kids.  We usually cool the fridge down, pack it, and surround the food with frozen water bottles for the journey.  The only cooler we bring now is a small coleman for the beer and coolers.  Once i'm planted at the camp fire, i prefer to reach over for the next one, rather than run to the pup, getting lazy...

How much is the electric cooler?  If it is cheap enough then you should be able to get through a weekend with that and 1 bag of ice.  Sorry, no icy pops with this option  :'(

If you need a freezer for treats, the decision has been made! 😉
