Last week we booked ourselves into the Gravenhurst KOA (here in Ontario) for 5 nights to round out our 16 day trip...  Once we got to the cg, we noticed that 90% of the sites were actually seasonal campers..  Now I'll give credit, almost all the trailers were 10 years or newer and all the seasonal sites except 2 or 3 very well taken care of...  The two things that annoyed me (more then the DW or DS2) was one the number of seasonal campers (think I counted about 30 overnight sites available) and the fact that every seasonal kid in the park worked there, doing everything from check-in's to lifeguard to cleaning restrooms and cabins...    I was just shocked by this...    a few years ago we stayed at the KOA in Niagara Falls (Canadian side) and there was only 3 long term campers there (not seasonal, just long term like 3 - 4 months...  these trailers were still capable of being moved off the site, didn't have big decks or sheds surrounding them)  and the people who worked there were all over the age of 18, a few of them were even over 65 (they were doing the "work Kamp" thing..)  .

So anyone else ever come across a KOA with a large number of seasonal campers?

Funny you mention this, because we recently encountered this at a KOA southeast of Pittsburgh. I was truly surprised at the number of seasonal trailers or long term guests, as this park is located right near 2 major highways making it a perfect overnight stop. I didn't really think it would be a destination spot.

That being said, I have only good comments about the place. The adult workers were helpful, accommodating,  & very friendly. The grounds were well maintained, & I had asked for an "easy in/ easy out" site since we were traveling, & that's exactly what I got. We never even unhitched for the night. There were quite a few other overnighters like ourselves,  but the amount of long term set ups surprised me.

I have never seen many seasonal campers.  However, with a popup, I am usually not in the area that would have seasonals.  I guess it depends who does the sales and marketing for the campground you stay at and what type of business they go after.

For some reason, I thought that KOA's were not allowed to take more than a certain percentage as seasonals.  I don't know why, I never read it anywhere, I just had that idea in my head.  I don't mind the seasonals that can still move.  I don't like to see a camper with an addition, a deck, a shed, and flower beds.....I think they need to go to a property or other dedicated campground...IMHO

Not sure about the KOAs down here but alot of CGs here have seasonal camper for 5-6 months in the winter. Makes it hard to find a weekend site in the season. I shouldn't complain as this may be my way of coping with retirement on a fixed income is the future also.

My BIL's parents are one of the seasonals in Florida with a class A.  It isn't a KOA but from the way they describe it, it is all seasonals during the winter and they are either next to or on a golf course 'cause the Dad plays golf like 3-4 times a week.
