Have you ever tried to explain to co-workers or others who don't camp, why you love it so much?  You sleep outdoors (sorta) regardless of the conditions.  You sit around a campfire, staring at each other or maybe nothing.  You cook like cavemen.  You set it all up and it seems like hours later are packing it all up - and love it.  😀

I know the feeling. I work in Philadelphia and most cannot understand why I would want to go where there is no sidewalks. You dont even want to talk about hunting with them. They dont get why I would sit for hours at a time in one spot and not see a thing all day besides trees. I just tell them the trees and a better view than the one from my window in my office.

I think in a odd way I'm glad the rest of my family doesn't like to camp.. that leaves more camping space for me where ever I do want to camp.  Strange that my mother and I had this very conversation today.  She just doesn't get it.  My "camping family" and I plan  and enjoy wonderful meals  :chef:,  laugh and joke sitting around the campfire, enjoy riding the Baja Mini bikes, and all share in taking care of the canine troop that love to camp too.  :dog: :dog: :dog:  Life is good camping!!  🙂

...and the faces they make when you say you are going away for a weekend in the woods with people you just met on the Internet.

Jeep and Harley have sayings...
"It's a Jeep thing"
"If you rode one, You'd understand"

What would the equivalent be for campers?...
"It's a Back to Nature thing"
"It's about unplugging from the world"
"It's how I keep my mancard current" (no offense to the female campers)

I like the idea. (from a guy who has a Jeep and Harley)

Harley's saying is "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand"

I have tried many times, but come to realize that they will never understand. I believe it starts early in life and stays with you for most.  For the others it is contact with those that love it.

It's really the same with any hobby or pastime. You do it because you enjoy it. I'm sure that person that's giving you the odd look when you tell them about your weekend has something they do that you'd give them odd looks for.
