We are reserving a few camping trips for next year including the local KOA and a few other places. The cost is over $50 dollars a night for one campground!  I was wondering what everyone else pays for camping per night for a site with water and electric.

I can't say that we've ever spent $50 per night at a CG but I have easily spent in the 40s for a private CG.

I remember not to many years ago, Pennsylvania State Parks were $14 for weekend and $12 during the week.  Now they are $30+  They haven't raised their base rate, they now just charge extra for electric, hot showers, flush toilets, pets, etc.

OMG!  😮 I just sounded like my father, "I remember, school, up hill both ways, no soles in the shoes, blah blah"  😮

We haven't spent over $50/night for a campsite in recent memory, but we definately have spent in the $40's for a private campground. Most of our trips are to PA state parks, so that is generally under $40.

Depending on where the campground was located and the amount of amenities, I wouldn't be opposed to $50/night - we just haven't gone anywhere where that was the norm.

Strawberry Park Resort in CT is $182 for a weekend with Water/electric. 😮
Well, they do have a hot tub and an adult only pool.
And the sites are not big by any means.

Glen Burnie.....I don't know where in VA you are but if you are going to the Fredericksburg KOA.....it is worth it.  I was there during the Boy Scout Jamboree last summer.  It is super nice, awesome new bathouse, nice roomy sites (for a KOA, don't compare them to a state park), fishing lake, nice pool, playground, etc.  I met the CEO of KOA there so if the CEO hangs out there....its gotta be a good place.

I feel cost depends on ameneties.  Yes SP are cheaper but you don't get all of the ameneties.  When my son is about 5 or older I can see us staying in the private campgrounds and paying more so that he can enjoy the playgrounds, pools, hayrides, minigolf, etc.

In Texas our state campgrounds cost less than $20/night. The ONLY time we will stay at a private campground is if a state park isn't near our destination. We stayed at a really nice KOA in Padre Island, but it was expensive. We stayed at a really nice one in San Antonio near Sea World and it too was expensive...and the boy's brand new bike was stolen from outside their office.  😮 That really was an expensive trip!

I would say the average is between 30 and 50 for a private campground.

I too have found most private CG's to run $30-$50/night, and have upon occassion paid that amount.  I do utilize my various memberships as I can no longer justify paying the full price.

Love State Parks, but for example VA parks are not pet friendly - they charge a per pet, per night fee plus tax on that.

I do cheat somewhat - our family reunion camping trip is held at Kerr Lake, NC, so I let my 'senior' cousins reserve the site with their discount and reimburse - otherwise I couldn't afford it (runs a week-2 weeks).

I think the propane refill and pet friendliness are my main factors for appreciating private campgrounds.

We stay primarily in State parks. The nightly fees have been from $25 to $30.

We don't normally spend more then $40 per night.  There would have to be a lot to offer before we'd pay more.

My preference has been National Forest C/G's - they usually cost the least and the sites are generally larger and more space. However, electrical and on site water hook-ups and are rare. But for ten or fifteen bucks a night, plus the senior discount, makes them much more attractive. My next choice would be the state park C/G's. Now I have stayed at a few K.O.A.'s overnight while enroute to and from a destination, but I've found their cost high and what you get for a site lacking. Having said that, for me, staying in the pup (in my own bunk with all my "stuff"), even though it is a K.O.A., much better than a motel and sleeping in a strange bed!

We haven't yet but are considering it for this fall.  The cg we used to camp at all the time was sold and the prices have gone up considerably.  We haven't been there since and last summer found out most all the old permanent campers we knew were pulling out last fall.  The price for a water/elec site is $40. and then an extra $10. for us to take our DGD with us.  There is no pool-you swim in the lake-, fishing isn't all that good anymore, they do have planned activities and a couple of small playgrounds but nothing special to pay that price.  It used to be the people that made the place, permanent campers, but now it wouldn't be the same.  The only reason we consider it is for Halloween weekend, otherwise I just can't justify $50. a night plus taxes.  If you want sewer it is even higher and very few sites.  We shall see.

We stay at state parks on or near the beach too....I hope never to pay too much more than that but it is still cheaper than a hotel room  😉
