There are many weekends that we have already commited to plans and only have part of the weekend available.  Would you camp for just one night?  I have several times but continue to agrue with DW because she thinks it's to much trouble for such a short time.

She thinks it's nuts, by the time we get it all packed and tow vehicle connected, get to the campground, get opened up and set up, make that store run for the ice or other things we forggot, cook and eat dinner and its for bed, get up the next morning, shower, breakfast and start packing up, that just sounds insane to her.  That sounds like exactly why I camp... it's fun.

I agree with you, Glen.  I do believe that the key is KISS.
For just one night, I probably wouldn't even disconnect from my TV.
The awning stays up.  The door may or may not come down.
A good hoagie would be fine for me for dinner. And a fire with a few chilly ones would make for a great evening.

Without a doubt.  One day is far better than no day.

DH and I agree that it wouldn't be for us.  When we had our pup I liked 3 day weekends much better because it was so much to set up and tear down.

I wouldn't do a one nighter just to get out and come home the next day.

I suppose it will finally boil down to what it is I'm heading out to do just for one night. Have done so for "visiting" purposes ... I do not sleep well in an unfamiliar bed and much better in the Starcraft bunk ... I like to be around my "stuff".
Now, having said all that, there have been times when we went fishing down to the river (not far from here)  for just a one nighter have taken the dome tent.

I have never done it and think the only way I would consider doing it is if I could get to the CG early to enjoy the whole day.  Any less time and all you are doing is sleeping and going back home.

While I usually prefer at least 2 nights I probably would do it for one night if it was close by. I dont think I would take much more than a couple hour ride to camp for just one night. I agree its fun, and I agree its a lot of work.

DH and I think one night is not long enough.  We prefer 3 nights, but most of the time settle for 2.

Rhe more nights the better but when you got to have the campin fix a one nighter is just fine. We have done it a number of times, as long as the drive is not too far it's all good.

When doing a 1 nighter you have to also stretch it out.

Usually for a 2 nighter I am getting to the campground at 6pm or later and then Sunday morning we wake up and start packing.  When doing a 1 nighter you can't show up Sat night at 6 and start packing in the morning. That wouldn't be worth it for me.

DW and I did a 1 nighter 2 years ago.  We got to the campground at 3pm and then stayed until 2pm on Sunday.

What about on a trip?  We like to have at least 2 days, unless its over 5 hours than 3 day minimum. Set up always depends on my mood and how tired i am.

I'd never do a one nighter.    It just easier to go outside, pop it up, open a beer, and just call it a night in the driveway.

Maybe once a year the schedule is busy and it's been a few weeks since I've camped.  Sure, I'd do a one nighter just to enjoy the smell of a campfire for a few hours.  :smore:

Wouldn't that be a one nighter?

Or local SP is 16 miles from our home.  One nighters are the norm there.

We prefer at least 3 nights, will settle for 2, but don't do 1 nighters.  Too much trouble.

I think I could handle one nighters if it were just me. I wouldn't need to drag all the "stuff" out and could be set up in about 30 min, and about the same for tear down. Or if we were on our way somewhere distant and had to camp a night to get there. But unfortunately we haven't done any extended trips yet. We are debating doing either a trip out to the coast or heading out west. Not sure which way yet, but either direction they both will probably include at least one night somewhere.

If its to be for a social evening with friends, I would absolutely do a one nighter.
