What do you do if they are calling for rain half and even the whole weekend you have a camping trip planned?
Do you go anyway, change weekends, pack a canopy?  What if the weather changes and they are calling for rain after you have arrived and set up?

Depends.  If DW is going, its her call.  DW and I did go camping 2 years ago with my 5 year old nephew on a rainy weekend.  On the way there he said "you know what I like best about camping???? Not camping with my sister."  If he wasn't with us we would have packed up on Saturday and gone home.

Been in this situation more than once..we just roll the dice and go far it...But we do try to prepare in case we have to set up or break camp in the rain...My theory is a wet, fun camping trip trumps a dry day at home.. :cowboy:

living in California, allow us to put off camping in rainy weather because it won't last long.
rainy days are so infrequent, that you can reschedule a few days later.

we have so much great weather, year-round, that you don't have to force yourself to camp in lousy weather.

other areas of the country would be different, especially those northern areas that only have a 3 month camping season.

For us, it depends on whether it is warm and rainy or cold and rainy.  It's easier to tolerate the warm and rainy then the opposite. It also depends on the campsite and what activities are available to occupy your time there and outside of the campsite.

We camp rain or shine...that's the benefit of popups! If it rains we play games inside and head out into the mud when it stops. I'd much rather camp in the rain then stay home!!!

We normally setup the canopy on the camper so we can cook outside and a 10x10 canopy over the picnic table so we can sit at the picnic table for meals or to play games.  We've even sat under the canopy and watched the campfire out in the rain.

As a matter of fact, we did that at the Lackawanna Rally in Oct. - Thanks Phil!  🙂

I'll camp in the rain, it really doesn't bother me.  If it looks like its going to rain for the weekend we'll set up the 10x10 ez up for extra shelter so we're not stuck in the trailer.

I don't let rain deter me from a trip, I do however try to put up the Add-A-Room.  It's the breakdown of camp in the rain I dislike - knowing that I have to set up again at home to dry everything out.

Camping in the rain is better than being at home in the rain......much more relaxing in the PUP.  Great time for napping, reading or watching a video.  Also a nice time to get out and explore the towns surrounding the CG, locate eateries of interest for future trips.

Now I will say that if the weather is to be semi-severe (high winds), and I know in advance, I might change my plans.  Hate the awning flapping or the AAR separating from the awning, or having to tie the flaps up to allow the winds to come through.  But thereagain, if I don't set up the awning/AAR and we have storms with wind, it's not a big deal to me.....enjoyable.

I hadn't thought about exploring the local towns.  🙂 My daughter and I walked around Lake Placid, Florida to see all the murals in the rain one day.  It was a lot of fun and we both laughed the whole day.

Our first year of using our Hybrid we adopted the saying " If it ain't damp, we don't camp"  It rained every time we set up. From a light afternoon shower to w washout.  It's still better than staying home!

We just build "First-up" village out of 2 or more First-up canopies. We side in part of it and if we know it might be cold we bring a propane heater to keep it warm. Rain is just a small annoyance

Doesn't deter us at all....as a matter of fact I think we have camped more in the clouds than we have in the sunshine!

I have camped in the rain a lot!  We have done everything from just sitting under a 10x10 canopy by a fire, to using multiple tarps, multiple canopy's to make a sort of tarp city on our site.  Just another of the adventures of camping.
