Does anyone have an idea for a theme or preference. I remember one of the suggestions was Alphabet. Apple Pie, Blueberry pancakes, Chicken, Dumplings, etc. ::)
I like the idea of a chili cook off,
Why not combine all of the above. Chili cook off, plus Alphabet theme and all wear green or wear a St Patrick's Day decoration if want to celebrate. If someone wants to bring a food item in honor of St Patrick's Day they can utilize the alphabet list.

I agree
Sounds good to me too. Everybody do your own thing, :dunno: celebrate St Pat's if you want .Bring whatever favorite food item you want If you want to wear green, wear green. If you want to go naked, go naked.
Tom, we don't need to have a theme or competition. We have had chili or soup cook offs in the past at the march rally because its a great time of the year for warm food. It not very competitive, we have enough categories that everyone wins.
The reason we sometimes do a theme is because many of us camp together 10 times per year over 9 months and its nice to change it up a little. Not a big deal and always optional for everyone.

Dawn and Paula,
I get confused when you both suggest themes (soup/sandwich or burger fixin bar) and also talk about how great the Italian night and the potluck breakfast have gone and then complain or wonder why we do them? That sends out mixed messages and makes guys like me drink.
On that note :-X :-X :-X :-X
I'll bring paper products and a double layer of clothing.
My vegetarian BIL backed out of going so that means I'll be bringing a meat product....don't know what yet. Still thinking.
I like the Chili contest 'cause you get 5 different chilis to try.

Like my friends from MAC said, if 6 bring macaroni salad... we will all eat mac salad.
Actually, Joe, it was potato salad, not macaroni salad 😉 The funny thing is, in all of our MAC trips, I think we have only had potato salad once! I had picked up a container of 3 Potato Salad that I had heard was really good from the Hershey Market on Rt 10. (yes, it was good)
As for changing things up a bit, we do the same with our frequent campers. Sometimes, it's breakfast potluck, a late night dessert potluck, an ice cream bar where we bring samples from our local dairy or brand, & sometimes we just do side dish sharing. Each family brings their own main course, but we eat together & share all side dishes. Like you said, just something different every now & then.
In this house, we're not big chili eaters, so we never enter that. But anything else, we're game.

chili theme sounds like a darn toot-in good time :omg: let us know how much to make. i also promise not to make ours out of any turtles and will not be cooking in a canadian chimny ay.
Oooo...Turtle chili? Sounds YUMMY!!!
Actually I realized today that my next even to plan is our menu for this trip. I'm certainly up for a chli cook off if we really want to do that. I have a couple of recipes I wouldn't mind testing. Then again, I could do that if we just have big, generic pot luck. Anyone mind being my test subjects for a weekend? :chef:
That's a really nice warm welcome, Joe! I had to smile at "tomato pies" because we used to live in NJ and I was brought up with Tree Tavern "pizza pies" (from the Tree Tavern on Rt. 1 in Elizabeth) and we called them "pizza pies." I've moved to a few states and I've since seen that brand in the frozen food section somewhere. When we lived in Nebraska in 1970, I called to order a pick up for a "pizza pie" just like I would have in NJ. They told me they did not make pies, just had pizza. Okay. Then they asked what kind of pizza I wanted. Cheese. The guy asked, "Just cheese? What about tomato sauce?" Geez! I ordered it anyway and when I got home with it, there was no mozzarella - just parmesan. That was the last pizza I ordered over the phone there. They also make rectangular pizza there. No crust on the inside pieces. 😀
Enjoy your tomato pies! Here in GA, we make tomato casseroles, but that's another story!
