On Friday evening around the bonfire, Peter and I might (like in a previous trip) get out the big deep fryer and make some deep fried goodies like Jalapeno Poppers or Egg rolls for late night nosh.

They cured my upset stomach the last time (or burned a hole through it)  :-

I am originally from NYC/LI and for my current job, the main office is up on Long Island.  When I get special jobs done for them payment is usually a slice of LI pizza.

COLD?? I'll have to add that to my personal "oddities" list.  8)  I guess we'd vote for the "anything fried is good" since we're now in GA and we even fry pickles here, battered and deep fried.

I'm from NJ and cold Tomato Pie was weird to me as well....until I tried it.  It is a Sicilian pizza without the cheese.

I'll bring a chili to the pot luck.

I got a white turkey chili recipe yesterday at work. I'm going to try it this weekend. If its any good (that is, if I don't totally fail at following the recipe) I'll be bringing that.

I'm also entertaining the idea of starting my trip on Thursday after work if the weather is nice, in case anyone else is interested.

On a lighter note if it doesn't stop snowing here anytime soon. I will not be able to get my camper out from around the back of my house to actually make it to this Spring opener rally. Need the 18 inches to be gone in less then 32 days Unless I rent a flame thrower lol .

From a organizational point of view and to make sure that a Chili contest and the Group dinner doesn't cover each other up (One year was a Chili contest and because they did it at the same time as Dinner, most people had no idea it was even happening), we should make them at different times. Especially since the Chili contest is really a tasting, not a meal.

So maybe something like Chili Contest - Tasting and Judging at 5:00PM, with Potluck dinner/Theme at 6:00PM, announcement of the winner to be at bonfire. Its late enough into the day that people can enjoy the afternoon, but close enough together to get both sets of cooking done.

If we want to make this an official part of the weekend, then we can put the Chili contest as a separate thread with its own rules and schedules.

Thoughts?

OK, we can have the Chili contest prior to the official pot luck.  Set up a separate table for the chili pots and have dixie cups and spoons out so everyone has a chance to "taste" the chili.  Once the Pot luck begins I say the dixie cups go away and it's dinner time

I don't know if we need strict rules and regulations.  If you call it chili, then it's chili.  Store bought or homemade, doesn't matter.  As for voting, I'm thinking we go low tech.... just put a cup in front of each pot and give each person 1 token to put in the one they like the most.  We count the tokens at 6:30 and announce the winner at the fire.

There will be a regular Pot-Luck dinner theme (its in the works, stay tuned), the Chili contest is over and above for those up to the challenge.
