original message:
Many of our camping friends dream of camping during the winter months.  For some of us Diehards we live the dream!!!

A small group of us have talked about and will plan on going to French Creek State Park over Martin Luther King weekend, January 16-18, 2015.  Some may have off that weekend so you can make it a long weekend if you want.  We are not the only crazy camping group.....members of Canvascampers have run into members of the R-Pod club in prior years.  Last year was the first time we did a joint rally with them and I'll talk with them again this year.  Lets face it, when you camp in the cold it is better to do it in a group so you can lend/borrow an electric heater if needed.  If you want a camping fix but think it will be too cold in your camper.....The 3 camping cottages are open at the end of the loop for $45 per night.  Electric heat/lights and sleeps 4.

Yes there is the chance of snow in January.  I'm not going to book my site until the 10 day forecast covers that weekend.  But that doesn't mean you can't pencil it into the calendar and chat about it on the forum!!.  It will also be cold.  We're going to skip the pot luck so everyone can sit in their warm camper to eat.  We will have a group campfire.  I will bring my trailer full of pallet wood so we can have a nice fire going in the afternoon/evening on Saturday.

Who is interested in joining us?

We'll bring some random logs to burn. We have several woodpiles in the yard. I'll have to see what we have.

Someone from the group usually stays in them during the spring opener in March.  They are warm and dry.

Just was wondering if the cottages had  a stove or do you use the fire pit for cooking.

My camper is  in winter hibernation until april so i have a cabin reserved for the spring opener. I plan on making dutch oven soup. And either heating it on a open campfire. Or with a electric crockpot.

There are no cooking utensils in the cottages.  You literally only get a 1 double bed, 1 bunk bed 2 chairs, and 1 small table.

Here is a video of a cottage.  I forgot that there was a bunk bed over the double bed.  Are you thinking of joining us brownscamper?

Joe - with your new larger camper, you may need an additional space heater...I know we did when we went from the 10' popup to the 12' w/slide popup...

Suzanne, I don't know COTOC (what does it stand for?) but if they camp they are welcome to join in.  If you want to give them my email I'll chat with them.  Matt@canvascampers.com.  We're not looking to steal people from other websites, but other websites do have one or 2 people who usually like winter camping.  Lets get them all together and have a good time.

That is great TMMull.  I haven't decided if I am going to stay Sunday night yet.  DW may want me home 🙂
