original post:
June - how about Lake Raystown Seven Points campground?

Joe and I don't really camp in NJ...the state parks don't allow dogs (last time I checked). We do have a decent county park in Jefferson NJ (Mahlon Dickenson County Park). I could look into the specifics there, it is a small place, and we'd have to reserve early. But there are lots of nice hike/bike trails.

First class campsites are unmatched in proximity to the lake and include water, electric (30/50 amp service), wireless internet and cable hook-ups, fire ring and picnic table.

Dawn,

Whats in the area, I have yet to get out that way?  If theres a lot to do (enough toursty stuff to keep Melly happy) and you schedule mid to late June  We'd probally make it a week long trip.

If in June, it needs to be after the kids are out of school.  Esp. if its a long weekend.

Seven Points is a really nice place - 2 loops of electric sites. I believe the electric sites are around $25/night, and the sites were a really nice size.

There are boat/kyak/canoe rentals at the marina, a nice swimming hole (that allows doggies to swim with the people), a BBQ place at the marina, tons of great mountain biking  ;D and best of all - - - you can have a beer without being hassled by the rangers  ;D ;D ;D

We've been there 3 times in the last year, and are definately going back 1-2 times next season.

Dave -
There is alot of outdoor recreation things to do in the area boating, fishing, swimming, biking at the lake. I don't think there are any touristy things in the immediate area, you'd have to drive 1-2 hours. There are two railroad related spots:
Horseshoe Curve (Altonna - ~1 hr):
East Broad Top RR (Rockhill Furnace- ~1 hr):

and Hershey Park/Lancaster County is about 2 hours to the east - - and there is a lot of touristy things there.

Sounds good.  I should be able to sell it on the kayaking alone.

I have a feeling to make this happen, reservations would need to be made in December if your wanting to do this in June.  This is not the easiest place to get a good spot at being as it is so popular.

OK everyone, it looks like one of our options is [s]Raystown Lake's Seven Point Campground[/s].
There are two water front camping loops, not sure which is better.

We are planning to do a 4 day weekend, but I'm not sure what day we will be arriving yet, maybe Friday thru Monday

I'm not sure which one is better, we've only stayed in the Meadows and Ridge camp loops. Maybe Bill or Bev would know the answer to this one, but let's make a decision as to either Point or Senoia soon so that we can all get reservations Dec 17 !

We stayed at Point, site 152.  The site and ones around it were awesome, but showers/restroom were at the top of a very steep hill, and the loop itself is on a sort of hill side.  We never stayed at Sonia, but to me it looks like there are many more water sites and more then one shower place.  I know absolutly nothing about Sonia loop though.

Bill - how close is this one to you? any chance of taking a ride before Dec 17 to check it out and make a decision as to which loop is better? If not, then I'm thinking Senoia because of the 2 bathrooms and more electric sites.

It is about 2 1/2 hours away from me Dawn.  I will try to get out there, but with taking off last weekend and the way my schedual runs I can't promise anything.  It gives me a month to try to fit it in, so its not like it is not do-able.

Bill - thanks for offering, I thought it was a little closer for you - don't worry about it. That is a to far to go to simply checkout a campground (in my opinion).  I'll try and get to Google maps and try to research it that way.

I was just about to offer a road trip since I typically don't need much of an excuse for a road trip, but I just saw that for me its a 4 hour ride. So I guess a road trip to scope out is a bit out of the question..... but a 4 hour trip for camping is another matter..

Looks like such a nice area, but just checked google and it looks like a 6 1/2 hr drive for us. A bit much for a weekend... :-

My sister and her family camped here for over ten years on a ten day watersking vacations.  I have a call into her.

Lou,
We scheduled this after the kids are out of school so we can make it at least a 4 day weekend.
