There are alot of CGs to choose from, now which one would be the perfect spot? We will finagle what ever time it takes to come to another rally. Georgia's got some great parks, Mckinney was really enjoyable. Honestly being even being from Alabama, I can't say much in comparing our parks :-X, we usually end up on the GA side. Of course I haven't visited them all (in Alabama) but Chewakla SP near Auburn is nice, and Gulf shores is nice but that is quite a trip, we would have to make that a week long rally :)! And we love do the CGs on West Point Lake. Just be sure to let us know when and where we need to be..........
I just got to thinking. Located in Gadsden Alabama is Noccalula Falls Park. We got there about 2/3 a year but have never camped there; it has about 75 sites, pool, playground in the CG. There are also walking trails, . It is a city park with a petting zoo, train rides too. I think there is a pavillion in the CG too. There's plenty to do, the camp ground is up the road from the park. Just something else to think about. Here's a link to a review of the park. http://pbandjadventures.com/Pl.....0Falls.htm (I love this website).
I've been thinking about the holiday weekend thing and getting close enough to call it a rally. Since Georgia parks won't let you reserve a specific site, we'd better opt for a site that does. If we get this going soon enough even a holiday weekend won't be a problem if we can reserve specific sites this far in advance. Otherwise, we might end up spread all over the park. Are there private parks (or even Fed) that let us reserve specific sites in the Warm Springs area? Columbus?
I've been looking east and west and central to south Georgia for CGs that offer good sites with bathhouse/bathroom facilities in reasonable proximity in a loop. (From camping there, Amity CG on West Point Lake -AL/GA border - was nice, but the loop we stayed on that would have been ideal for a rally has disappeared! Missnanc verified that with me as they had stayed on that loop too. Weird!
It has been interesting seeing how bad some of the facilities are for folks who might have little ones who need the bathroom close by. What is with 21-25 sites spread up and down a loop and a bathroom not even central? I've also found some CGs that don't post photos of their campsites or don't allow reservations lakefront, only walk ups! Hoping others with personal experience can give us some good input here!
Welcome Fletch and Anyone else who wants to attend! We will be glad to have you!
On the Spring Rally 2013- First of all, We would like to thank everyone for their input on locations and dates! We know we cannot please everyone with this decision but we are trying to please the majority. After much consideration and discussion, The location will be at McKinney Campground once again on April 5Th-7Th, 2013. We chose this location for several reasons, reservations can be made on line through www.recreation.gov where you can see your site you are reserving. Also there are quite a few sites along the lake edge for beautiful views while camping. The area we want to fill up first with reservations is sites 118-138. This loop has 2 bathrooms with a shower each. The next loop we want to fill is sites 139-150 which also has restrooms/ no shower. If needed, sites 105-117 on another loop can be reserved if we get a bunch to attend. This loop does not have any restrooms.
This will be the weekend after Easter. We looked at reserving sites a few weekends later but these sites was filling up fast already with reservations! Especially on this first loop. We chose this campground also because it being a federal park, some can discounts on their reservations and we know we can put most of us together for the weekend.
For those that lives far away, if you want to plan a small get together, by all means let us know! We have a few family's who like to travel to meet new friends at different camp grounds we have never been to see. And yes we could possibly go to middle Georgia, Alabama, even to South Carolina and Tennessee!
At the fall rally, This loop of campsites offered a great meeting area for the corn hole tournament, Scavenger hunt for the young and old Kids and a meeting area for the Saturday night pot luck dinner!
So make your reservations now and mark your calendars! We would love for you to attend!

Wow, I leave for a couple of weeks and come back to a nearly planned rally. 🙂 ...well not completely planned yet. 😉
Wow! Without any direct input from us, those dates work for us. I'll have to go reserve a site tonight! I'm excited about this rally!

Here's my input. Weekends during the school year are really difficult for us . ...especially if the the potential rally site is far from home. (We're in Marietta, 30062.) I have Saturday morning commitments in the Dunwoody (North Atlanta) area. If the rally is near north Atlanta again, we could do most any weekend. I would just excuse myself from Saturday morning camping activities and "commute" to Dunwoody and back. This is completely doable from any of the Alatoona or Lanier COE campgrounds.
That being said, spring break frees us up to travel further. Most of the North Metro Altanta public school systems have spring break either the first or the second week in April (ours is the second week of April). Personally, the ideal date for me would be April 5-7, and we would probably be willing to drive up to 4-5ish hours on that weekend. (We're in Marietta, 30062.) If the rally were that weekend, we might even combine it with a longer camping trip to Florida (if we can make reservations at a nice beach campground).
I personally like the idea of CampDad's 14 acres. That could be fun! It would certainly motivate me to go out and buy the battery that we've been doing without.
So much for waiting until tonight. I called Laura and she said, "YES!" So, we're in! :jig:
I just reserved site 122 for three nights, arriving on 4/5 and departing on 4/8. This is going to be awesome!!! :goodstuff:
Pat, glad you'll be there! We'll be neighbors this time!
It looks like 121 and 124 are also reserved. Jimmy, are you in one of those spots?
