Hi Gang,

ChefPete here. :chef:  As some of you know know, I'm a chef/caterer/event planner.  That being said, I've volunteered to organize the Saturday night pop up dinner at Raystown Lake.  I like parties that have themes, but not just your average theme.  You may have already guessed that the theme of this dinner is PURPLE!!  What does that mean?

Like any potluck, bring your favorite dish. Please reply to this thread with your dish.  BUT, do try to cook with purple or display your dish in purple, and WEAR something purple! Creativity counts, however purple tattoos from 1964 do not count.  😉  There will be two prizes:  best use of purple in your food contribution and best use of purple on yourself (i.e. costume, hair style, clothing, etc..).

Why purple?  Well...why not?

The dinner will be held lakeside at the Gathering Site, #47 on Saturday Evening.  Food service shall begin at 6PM.  Please have your contributions to the tables by 5:45PM.

Sounds great. Thanks for organizing this event. I'll bring Baked Ziti for my picky kids and everyone else.  Not sure yet where to fit in the purple.  I'll have to think about that one.

Paula, you can get as risque as you can without embarassing your kids too much. My kid is only 8.5 months old so there's no embarassing him.

Put anything in a purple bowl or line it with a purple napkin.
Maybe a beverage that's purple or served in purple cups?

Purple Food:
eggplant, plums, prunes, raisins, grapes, Purple figs, Purple grapes, Plums, Raisins, Purple asparagus, Purple cabbage, Purple carrots, Eggplant, Purple Belgian endive, Purple peppers,
Potatoes (purple fleshed)

How about purple jello or grape jello shots?

A food for thought: Red beet eggs/red beets. Add a little blue food dye. It should make a darker purple.

Red and Blue food coloring is your friend.

And remember, its doesn't have to be the food, it could be what its served on or with. Hell, a few years ago Heinz actually made a purple ketchup.

Peter Piper picked a peck of purple peppers. How many purple peppers did Peter Piper pick.  :idiot2:

Tell me where I can pick purple peppers and I'll bring them to the dinner.

After reading all of the ideas for purple food and using food coloring, I have been having images in my head all day.  All of the other campers at Raystown will know who is from the CanvasCampers group.  We all will have purple mouths, tongue, teeth and lips on Saturday night.  :hah:

I love grilled eggplant.  I know we'll be having purple martinis, but I guess I'd better think of a purple food too, huh?  :chef:

I was thinking along those lines.  Purple caramel sauce for the bread pudding just seems so wrong, which is why I'm thinking about it.

.... and now you see know why Peter always wants some type of theme for a group get together. It gets people thinking and plotting......
