This is a worthy consideration. We will do it if our July 4th plans fall through. Right now we are looking for a rental for OCMD as we just got notice our previous rental went to an annual rental.  :'( Anyone know of a decent place, doesn't need to be boardwalk. We were in West OC.

We just booked site #19 - according to the reservation site, it was the last available site in that loop.

Looks like the Ash Loop is full now.  There other sites available but I'm not sure about electric or pets?

Great picture from Rocky Gap SP:

Joe and I stayed in this area a few years ago and discovered the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, which has trains departing from Cumberland, MD. It is about 20 minutes west of the campground.

One of the cool things about this trip is that you can take the ride up to the turnaround point (Frostburg, MD) and ride your bike back down through the Great Allegheny Passage to Cumberland.

I contacted the place and was told that we could get a discount if we have more than 25 people going. The standard rates are:
Adult: $30 / child (12 and under): $16,  add $5 per person for you bike.

We haven't decided for sure if we are going to do this, but could definitely be convinced if others in the group were interested...

Another neat family activing in western Maryland is the C&O Canal Bicycling path, this takes the route of the old canal and goes from Washington, DC to Cumberland, MD. There really aren't any big hills, and the surface is hardpacked dirt. It has been rated as one of the most scenic trails in the country.

One of the interesting sites is the 3100 foot long tunnel through the town of Paw Paw Tunnel in WV - definately recommend bringing a flashlight, it gets pretty dark in there when riding a bike. In addition to this pretty cool place, there are also numerous old canal locks in various states of repair along the trail. All-in-all a very interesting place to ride the bikes without worrying about traffic.

As it turns out I have a family thing for this weekend, so I'm going to cancel.  Site 7 is now open.

A few people have mentioned having a hamburger and hotdog social at this rally with sides and fixin' bar.  I'm open for any ideas.

I think we are going to do it as a summer 'picnic' like dinner.  It will be the potluck dinner.
I'd prefer not having 2 meals so everyone can enjoy the day and the local area/CG.

Hi everyone -

ATTENDEES:
mknott57: 4 adults
my toys: 1 adults
Guitarman: 2 adults
JoeCamper: 4 adults
CANTgetRIGHT: 6 adults
twstdpear: 2 adults/2 children
mtn_bikers: 2 adults

- - TOTAL: 23 people for dinner - -

Christine and I are organizing the pot luck dinner for the Rocky Gap Rally.  We are doing a hamburger/hot dog social.  It looks like we are having 7 family units for the weekend, so I've broken the menu into 9 items. We are estimating about 23 people for the dinner- so plan to bring enough for that many  8). Hopefully we won't end up with tons of left overs like we usually have  ;D

Below is the menu that we created - please sign up for an what ever item you'd like to bring. Everyone will also have to provide their own dishes, utensils, and beverages, so don't forget to pack those items  :).

Menu:
1. Hamburgers (Guitarman)
2. Hotdogs (My Toys)
3. Hotdog/hamburger rolls (coordinate w/people bringing the burgers & dogs to figure the number of rolls needed) - CANTget RIGHT
4. Corn on the Cob (butter, salt/pepper), lettuce, tomatoes, onion & cheese for the burgers, catsup, mustard, relish, pickles
(mtn_bikers)
5. Baked Beans mknott57
6. Macaroni Salad and French Fries (maybe) (JoeCamper)
7. Dessert: bread pudding w/ caramel sauce twstdpear

You can add us for salty snacks such as potato chips, pretzels, nacho chips and dips for them.

For those of you going to this rally, Joe and I are in process of organizing a group bike ride on the C&O Canal Path on the Saturday of the weekend.

Our plan is to pedal out of a parking area near Old Town, MD which is about a 30 minute drive from the campground. I've found some information online, and it looks like the parking fee is about $5/vehicle.  We'd like to go about 10-12 miles east and go through the PawPaw WVA tunnel that is on the canal path, then have some lunch and head back to the parking lot. The total mileage on the ride can be as much or as little as everyone wants. The trip will be about 20 miles and take

Those of you that know us, know we spend a lot of time mountain biking - - no worries on this one, the trip is a nice semi-flat no rocks kind of trail.

Christine suggested I post up items that you should bring if you are thinking about doing this with us.  Here's the list I put together:
1. bike -  ;D
2. bike helmet
3. spare inner tube for you bike in case you get a flat - don't worry if you don't know how to change it, we do  😀
4. camping headlight or flashlight - the tunnel is really dark inside
5. plenty of water - we generally use our Camelbaks which hold 100 oz each, but 1-2 waterbottles would also work
6. backpack - to put the water and your lunch in
7. lunch - best items are the ones you don't have to keep cold: PB&J sandwiches, granola bars, apple slices, cookies, raisins, etc)
8. sunscreen/bug spray

If you are interested in doing this with us, either post it on the thread or shoot me a pm so I can get a basic head count.

Hope we get a nice group for this activity.
