Black, grey tank level readings wrong

Have a question for you guys. In my 2010 Jayco 19H we have the panel that tells you battery level, black, grey, and fresh water levels. Occasionally when we arrive at our site and set up I check the levels and it says there is water in the black or grey tank and I know they are empty. The black tank I thought TP could be stuck to the level probes but the grey tank? When we pack up to go home I usually flush the tanks out with fresh water by emptying tanks, filling with water, and then dumping again. What could be going on here and any fix? Someone mentions putting some water and bleach in the tank before heading home and it will splash around on the way home. But is bleach safe for the plumbing seals?

From what I've read these tank gauges are notoriously inaccurate, mine included.  I flush my tanks when I empty, and leave a few gallons in when I travel.  They still don't read right all the time.  I've gotten to the point where I judge how much is in and dump accordingly.  I've also read about replacement probes, I think the name is Horst, or something like that.

I have a set of Horst probes for sale that I would let go cheap.
I had bought them and decided I wanted to go with the See-Level II electronic system.

I used the See-Level II before and really like the % full that it measures that tanks at. If you're 40% full, that's what it reads, not 25% like on the four probe models would.
The Horst probes replace those in your current black and grey tanks and are supposed to be pretty good.

Dawn and I have the x17z -- same issue. The black tank reads 25% full when completely empty. Like the previous posts suggest, the sensors are not that great.

On another note, our Jayco dealer recommended dumping some water with ice into the tank prior to driving home. The idea is that the ice will "scrub" the tank's insides.

If I am at a 75 % level, but the meter reads 100%,( on any of the tanks), I use it as a safety guide.

it is reminding me that I am close to the point that black waste, and waste water, could spill out into my camper.

if you know that you can go one more full day on both before dumping, thats fine.  but if you are not sure?  better to be safe.

It's never a good idea to put bleach in your Black tank. The bleach will kill the enzymes that break down the solids and depending on what tank deodorizer you are using there could be a violent chemical reaction and then trouble. Do a google search for "Geo method" and give that a try to clean your tank.

All of my gauges are off with the exception of the battery level. I have tried rinsing over and over, dumping ice and traveling down the road. I have found it to just be watchful and dump when you think your getting close. I haven't had any accidents yet but I'm sure I will eventually!! We generally don't camp over a week anywhere and we know that our tanks will hold that much grey and black. We usually shower at the campgrounds when available so that saves us alot of room also ( not real sure if it drains to the black or grey ).
