My user name joelmyer was assigned to me in 1988 after I graduated from the Army & went to work for this small east coast computer company. My name is Joel Myers, but we all know that a name can only have 8 letters.
I've continued to use joelmyer whenever communicating with computers. It keeps life simple.

Among other things, I design, install and manage computer networks. "twstdpear" is a reference to "twisted pair" networking cable, and "pear" goes along with "twisted" because I've been described by more than a few people as not quite right.
I'm really not sure about the two missing vowels. It might have been because I was using "twstdpr" on UNIX systems and they were effectively limited to 8 characters for usernames. I then probably added the two extra vowels in "pear" so that it would be pronounced correctly when when I started using the name in more places where people weren't as familiar with computer networking were likely to be.
