I was chatting after church with someone who camps and they told me about THIS STORY of a boy who needed to be rescued from the pool at Codorus State Park recently.  My friends were not at the pool but near it on bikes.  They said they heard the loudspeakers telling everyone to get out of the pool and then they saw the helicopter come in to pick the boy up.  They heard that the Parents/Aunt and Uncle were at the campground while the 8 year old was at the pool with a 14 year old.

I remember working in a hotel and someone asked for a pool view room ont he 3rd floor so they could watch their children in the pool  😮 I politely told them that an adult needed to be AT the pool in the fenced in area and that unfortunatly we did not have any pool view rooms.

Please keep an eye on your children in the water.

I just can't imagine how parents/relatives/whoever is supposed to be responsible can let a child swim without close supervision, yet we see it all the time at campgrounds. And since we camp at state parks (with beaches, not pools usually) that means there are no lifeguards, either.

Since our grandson (and his parents  ;D) often camp with us, and the little guy loves the beach, we spend a lot of time in the water. We watch him like a hawk cause he's fast and has absolutely no fear of water. At Gifford Pinchot, with its beach just for the campground, we often see very young kids alone at the beach. In a couple instances, we later saw that the parents had campsites very close to the beach and probably were "watching" their kids from there!?!

I hope the boy in the news story makes a full recovery.

Thats a given, kids can drown in teaspoons of water, we start them early with swim lessons here, and they still need supervision. 8)

Amen, I cannot believe how many people let their kids run wild. We have one little boy in our neighborhood that is usually in my backyard from before lunch (which he usually eats here), until after dinner (which he also usually eats here) and beyond! He's mother will stroll over around 8:30 to come get him for "dinner".....he's five.  :'(
