Any suggestions for a campground to take our 4 yr. old grandson next week? We're in Eastern Pa. He's getting a new sister or brother and we're taking him for the week while his mother recuperates. We thought of Knoebels and Dutch Wonderland but they are both closed during the week. The pools are closed at Jellystone. We don't want to spend $150 to watch him splash around Sesame Place. We can keep him occupied with hiking and other campground activities but were looking for something a little special. The weekends are out - it has to be Wed, & Thurs.

A few of us from the forum camped at blue rock campground during Memorial Day weekend. We found it to be pretty kid friendly it has nice facilities a big play ground a nice pool and the family that run it were very accommodating Give them a call to see if there pool is still open during your dates. You can check out there website here

How about the Crayola Factory in Easton, PA. You can stay at either Colonial Woods or Ringing Rocks in Upper Black Eddy. Ringing Rocks has a good playground, never stayed at Colonial Woods.

We decided to go to Hickory Run State Park. It's less than 45 minutes from Steamtown USA and he loves trains. He's been to the Crayola Factory. Hickory Run has lots of geocaches, some placed by the park. He likes "Treasure Hunting" when we go hiking. The swimming is open until the middle of Sept. and there are lots of short hikes. We're going Wed., Thurs., and Fri so it won't be crowded. Report to follow.

I just saw this, I see that you are going to Hickory run.  I haven't been there, please let me know what that is like.

I have a 4yo son who LOVES Dutch Wonderland.  I wish it was open during the week in September.  For the future, they have themed Halloween and Christmas weekends that are awesome and not as crowded as you think.  We just got back from Raystown lake Resort.  That was awesome.  We camped right on the water, 100 yards from the swimming beach, the water was still warm enough to swim, we took a scenic lake cruise for $10 each, Mini Golf, restaurant, waterpark (but we didn't go).  We also had a grand time at Codorus since they have the zero degree entry pool, splash park, and water slide.

I just had to give you my 2cents since I have a 4yo.  I look forward to your report on Hickory Run.

Sounds like your DGS will be ready anytime you are to head out camping again. Wat a great time you boys had together.  🙂

Sounds like an awesome time.  I'll have to put Hickory run on my list for next year.  I took my son camping for opening day of trout season this year.  After fishing for about 20 minutes he said "can we go play on the playground now?"  I said sure....this weekend was about him, not me fishing.  Glad you got your roof down.  What was the final problem that you had to drill out some pop rivets?

When you crank the camper up, a pawl rides over the gear (the clicking you hear) so that when you stop cranking, the pawl engages the gear and the top won't go back down. There is something wrong so that the pawl never disengages when you crank it back down. There is a cover over that gear assembly that is held in place by pop rivets. I had to drill out the rivets and hold the pawl up with a screwdriver so we could crank it down. I still don't know why it is doing that and won't have time to look at it until Wednesday.
