Hey everyone, there is a 2002 Starcraft Centenial for $5400 in my neighborhood and though the pictures are nice I'm reluctant to go look at it because it doesn't have an inside toilet.  That is the one priority and the main reason I'm looking as my wife isn't wild about trekking through the woods to go to the restroom with or without our little girls in the middle of the night.

My question to all of you is simple...Is there room to replace one of the cabinets with a port-a-potty or should I just wait.  Granted I'm not in a rush but if this is as nice as the owner tells me (1 owner & garage kept) is it worth bringing him down several dollars for the remodeling I'm going to have to do if it's even possible?  And if those of you out there think it is worth haggling the price what is a reasonable offer?

He's had it on Craig's List for about a month with little to no real action so far...any thoughts?
Thanks for the help.

Doc, you can always negotiate and hope to get the best price possible. Just do your research on what is fair.

As for an indoor potty, I don't know if this is feasible for this model PUP, but we took out the fresh water tank in our old PUP and put in a 5-gallon porta-potty that stayed out of sight during the daytime when we could use the public bathhouse. At night we would just uncover the bin and have the toilet available. The 5-gallon size brought it up to the right height to "seat" ourselves easily. I bought it online but cannot remember where. (Sorry.)

Unless the owner is reluctant to set it up unless you're "serious", I'd go take a look at it anyway.  If nothing else, it'll help you decide on or confirm what you like and don't like, plus it'll give you some experience looking for issues with the trailer.  You may decide you like it.

One other option is getting a potty/changing/shower tent and put it right behind your camper. There are a number of different manufacturers.  Back when we had a potty-less popup and very young boys (3 and 5), we picked up a Paha Que' Teepee on closeout for about half price ($70 shipped for the model with fiberglass poles, IIRC) when they were switching over from the old teal color scheme to the (then) new orange one.  Now, it looks like they've switched again, to blue.  It's very sturdy and it could probably double as a bomb shelter.

I think there's one at Walmart that a lot of people have and recommend.  When I search for "shower tent" on there, I see four but I'm not sure which one it is.

Jeff - you are correct. We got ours at Walmart about 8 years ago, paid around $35 for it. I see that they are now up to about $43 (shower tent)

In addition to using it as a changing tent (during bike races), and a shower tent, we've also used it to house the 1/2 keg during certain Canvas Camper Rallies  ;D

My wife was not keen on the late night walks either.  I got a Thetford porta potty and it worked great.  Actually, I think I would prefer it to a cassette potty permanently in the camper.  I take it to sporting events, tailgating, concerts, just about anywhere.

I had no problems with room.  We kept it by one of the bunks during the day and then at night moved it in front of the stove or if we had the table outside we kept it by the dinette.

Lone Lock

I've heard before that the Thetford is the one to buy.  I saw on another site where a guy from Canada modified a cabinet so that after putting it on a plywood/carpeted base with rollers he could open the cabinet front and slide it out when in use and hide it when not.  He also had a Sterelite two drawer for paper, wipes etc., right next to it with a shower curtain wrapped around for privacy.  All of this in a small Jayco Sport I think.

Everyone thank you for input.  I may wait until after the RV Show starting a week from tomorrow here in Jax as there may be something one of the dealers takes in that has everything we want, the way we want it or someone who is desperate to get rid of theirs so they can buy that new Class "C" or 5th Wheel.  Since I have to remodel it slightly I may work the price around that as part of the deal.

I checked NADA and if it's a nice as he says he's close on the price but it isn't exactly what I want so again I can wait.

Thank you everyone.

I know you (and probably more your wife) want the potty for the trips at night for the kids, but when we are getting ready to settle in for the night we make a family trip to the bathroom.
Everyone goes just before getting into bed.

Our trips were almost always for one of the adults while the kids slept.
Consuming some alcoholic beverages will do that I hear. ;D

Our camper has a bathroom now so it is easier, but I bet the kids have only used it once or twice at night.
We still use the campground bathrooms during the day and our bathroom is for nighttime emergencies and that first of the morning, really not wanting to get out of bed until the last minute, now I can't wait anymore, there better not be someone in there time. Lol

Good luck, Wizfisher, with all those girls first thing in the morning. You might want a wooded site and some flip-flops!  ;D

Having it out never was an issue.  Heck, when the table was outside and it was by the dinette, I'd put my beer on the lid if we were sitting inside.

IMHO putting up a shower curtain for privacy....too much of a PIA.  If it was daylight and we were using it, we just kicked the other person out.  Overnight....it was dark out anyway.

Wizfisher.....why does it seem like 1 beer goes in and 2 come out????

I would go look at it but not jump just yet. You can buy a lot of pop ups for $5400.00 and a whole lot more at a show for not much more.

I wake up before them anyway so it is never an issue.
So far (knocking on wood now) they have all been waking up at different times.
Usually in order from oldest to youngest too, lol.

Plus I could pee outside if needed.  ;D

I'm not familiar with that specific model but many models of PUPs have a cabinet with no bottom rail on the door side so you can slide a porta potty in and out.  From what is being discussed I suspect this may be one of the models that doesn't have that.

Yeah, I had one of those special cabinet's for the potty.  I got the extra tall extra "storage" potty that was too tall for that cabinet.

Which Centennial model? In 2006 there were four.
A porta Potti is an easy solution. They make a smaller model that is not as tall, but it's very low.
I figure why take up a lot of real estate inside the trailer for something we use infrequently.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the info and BadSeed you're right, we have an RV Show coming up the week of the 7-10 of Feb. so i may wait until after that and see if he comes down on the price.  According to NADA the price is about right if the pictures are accurate but it still seems like a lot for a camper I'll have to modify.
Again thanks everyone.
