I just read Joes topic about PAPER OR PLASTIC and I really thought it was going to be about shopping bags.  Boy did I get suckered.

So, What bags do you use when you go to the store?

I usually take the reusable bags but I do forget and will use Plastic bags.  I like to get paper bags once in awhile so that I can put the paper recycling into them.

I don't like when a cashier doesn't put many items in a bag, no matter what type of bag.  Those plastic bags can hold alot more than what they typically put in and the reusable bags can handle like 30 or 40#'s.

I really really dislike when a cashier double bags 1 gallon of milk.  WTF???  Don't even bother putting the milk in a bag, it has its own handle!!!

About 3 years ago DW and I asked our family to get us the reusable bags from various stores for Christmas.  I'm all about odd and weird gifts.  We got about 10 different kinds and have been using them (when we remember) ever since.  The problem is remembering the darn things.  It took awhile but what I need to do is once I bring the groceries in I have to bring the bags right back out to the car.  I used to hate going to BJ's or Sams club 'cause they don't have bags or a 4 sided box.  Now I bring my bags there as well.

I use plastic bags at the grocery store.  I'm usually only buying for one.  :-[  I also reuse the bags over and over for other things.

I have a few canvas totes I have used for groceries, but usually forget them.  I've noticed a difference in quality of the plastic bags at various stores - Walmarts seem stronger and have good seams.  My grocery store has bags that have a fingernail size hole in the bottom seam......and I use these blasted bags as trash can liners.

I shop at Sam's or BJ's once a month, and now carry two plastic totes in the back of the truck - one for refrigeratables, one for non-perishables.  This has worked out very well for me.  And even when going to my local grocery store, I separate the bags the same way.

As to bagging milk.....I used to say the same thing 'wtf', but, I can slip the bag of milk over my arm and still carry other stuff with that hand and my other, so I no longer complain.

I picked up a reusable bag for my local grocery store.  We're credited $.05 for each bag/use.
Since I grocery shot 2-3 times a week (yeah, I DO like food shopping), the bag gets a work out.
I keep it in the kitchen on one of my cookbook shelves.

Make that SHOP, not shot.  (Couldn't access the thread to modify it since I had used the phone for the initial post.)

i get plastic bags from the grocery and currently have a gigantic bunch of them just waiting to be used for God knows what( i have three of the larger walmart and goodwill bags stuffed to the brim) :o....we did find a use for some of them when we were recently putting up the Christmas items and used them to wrap breakable figurines,etc....we use them for lining the trash cans obviously and if we need a bag for this or that but I am hoping to come upon some use for them.....sometimes for the holidays you can take them and stuff a big figure like a ghost or whatever for your front porch.....I have almost thrown out a big bag of them but I just can't bring myself to do it.....need to get online....I guarantee there is some craft or some way to use them  :reader:

PS I use reusable bags for my library trips b/c the books are super heavy
