What happened to television?

Whatever happened to television and a good show?  There was good shows on for many years that people looked forward to watching each week.  Now it's reality drama and stupid people entertainment.  I often think I'm less intelligent after watching some of this junk where you fail in love in weeks or fight and call names with the people you say are your friends.  How about a good story line or healthy family entertainment?

Unfortunately for us, "reality" television is cheap to produce, and makes lots of moolah....stay tuned for more. I do like Mike and Molly, love bites, and cougartown. When I'm able to actually watch them...

I have come to like the Antique shows.  Not Antiques roadshow with some guy with a pipe and bow tie telling you about a ming vase, but shows like:

"American Restoration" A guy restoring antique vending machines and other stuff
"American Pickers" Guys driving around knocking on doors of people with tons of  stuff in their yard, buying it, and then reselling it
"Pawn Stars" (not Porn) A pawn shop in Vegas and the crazy stuff that comes thru the door
"Storage wars" About people who have five minutes to look in the door of a storage unit before it is auctioned off.  And then the stuff they find inside.

Some of these shows throw in the Reality show mean guy but for the most part I find them educational and lots of time they come across stuff I have bought and sold at flea markets with my Dad.  He would LOVE these shows, unfortunately he passed away  1 1/2 years ago and there were only a few of these shows on.

Matt O 2006 Skyline Nomad 27' travel trailer.  Previously owned 1986 Coleman Columbia / 1992 Coleman Senecca / 1989 Born Free Class C RV.

Royal Pains is good, not sure if it's still on.
'24' was action packed and still family friendly - gone.
Friends was always good.

I agree with Lone Lock about 'American Pickers' and 'Pawn Stars' - they are two shows that us and DS's (13 & 15) watch together regularly.  Like Lone Lock said, there is a mild 'reality' aspect, but it's informative and educational, as these shows often relate history to everyday material objects.

I never thought I'd get hooked on a reality show, I definitely prefer a drama or some good old fashioned sci-fi. But lately we've found ourselves hooked on the SPIKE show "Coal" - pretty interesting.

For those who haven't seen it, it is a reality show about a small coal company in southern West Virginia. It's interesting to see all of the challenges that this company goes through in order to try and "stay in the black" - both monetarily and in getting the coal out of the mine.  You really have to appreciate how hard and dangerous this type of work is - after watching it, all I can say is "thank God I have a desk job".

I like  NCIS and NCIS LA, the CSI's, Criminal Minds, and Blue Bloods.  I have also enjoyed Americas Got Talent when they edit out the stupid people trying to get there minute of fame.  I don't whatch every episode of any of them, but when time permits those are what I enjoy.

There isn't one single show on right now, or in the past few years, that i have just HAD to watch.  Most of the time, if i'm going to be sitting in front of the tube, i'll check out the movie networks to see whats playing, unless there's a game on.  I don't really like any of the reality t.v. shows for the same reasons as camphappy.  My DW is a little addicted though...

BirdLand - We're heading to WVA this summer after the Rocky Gap Rally - - Joe swears it's because I'm hooked on "Coal" that I suggested it  😉  Seriously, I think I like the show so much because my grandfathers and great-grandfatheres on both sides of the family worked in the coal mines of NE PA and NW NJ. It's like a little glimpse of what we probably would have been doing if the mining hadn't dried up in the area before I was born.
