Hey everyone, next week we are taking our HTT for a week in Mystic, CT. We are staying as we did last time at the KOA in North Stonington which was kind of a last minute booking. Last time we went we did the aquarium and seaport which seems to be the biggest attractions now though we have a two year old which I think will love the aquarium but the seaport might be a chore.

So has anyone gone to Mystic and done any other good "young kid friendly" attractions. We also want to check out a nice beach while there any suggestions? Rhode Island? The KOA is nothing special there but since we will be out almost all day it's a place to sleep with full hookups. Will take and post pics of the site as well.

We've had a few rallies at Mystic Seaport Campground. Water/ Elec hookups, decent size sites for a private CG.

Wow, I just looked at the rates for the KOA, no wonder we've never stayed there. $20 more per night just to have a sewer hookup.
And as a group I've gotten rates out of them in the $20's per night for water/elec.
At the navy sub base in Groton, you can go on board a decommissioned sub as well as the Sub museum.

Less than an hour away, there is the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat ride.

And the Gillete Castle next to that.

There are beaches at Rocky Neck SP and also Misquamicut Beach over the border in RI, but the waves there would probably be too much for a two year old.

You also have the two biggest casinos in the world nearby, one of which has kids daycare.
Lastly, here is the CT visitors site.

Thank you very much to both of you. We now have a very busy itinerary to plan thanks to all the suggestions.

I see us spending quite a bit of time in RI this time out there. Yes the KOA is a bit $$$ for what it is but I am staying for 7 days and $100 for sewer is so worth it. How do you guys do it without sewer? If I left my grey tank valve closed after a few showers it is full. Black tank with three of us about 2-3 days and it needs emptying. When we had a PUP it was not nearly as big a deal.

My son would love a baseball game, however since we are pinstripe fans I may burst into flames walking in a bosox farm league stadium...LoL. So many ideas I don't know where to start. I think we need to make the trip to Providence, have heard nothing but great things.

We do it all the time. A twelve day trip down to Big Meadows CG, no hookups, only had to drain the grey water once into a tote and haul it off.
The 30 gal black water was fine for the two of us for twelve days.
In the case of Seaport Campground, the bathroom facilities are kept nice and clean, so a week there would be using their showers and toilets (except for those late night trips). If DW happens to be unhappy with the facilities wherever we are, she uses ours. However, after years of camping we typically only camp where bath facilities are acceptable to us.
Maybe because we had a pup with a 9 gal black water tank and a twenty gallon grey water tank, we are used to conserving as much as possible.
Usually the nicer sites don't have sewer and sometimes not even water/elec. You have to decide whats important. With my HTT, I don't typically like being between the buses and humongous fifth wheels that block out all the sunlight and view. So we do a lot of dry camping where the sites are nicer. Well worth it to have to bring a tote along to occasionally dump the tanks.

Your two year old would love the Steam Train and I didn't mention the Science Museum in Hartford which is probably about the same distance as Providence and is only a couple of years old. Also, the Mark Twain Museum is in Hartford.

Oh yeah, since you are a pinstripe fan, forget everything I told you. "Move along, there's nothing here for you to see."  ;D ;D ;D

The steam train looks so cool I think my little man would love it! I was worried going for a full week we would run out of stuff to do but this is great. I saw quite a few wineries in the area and since my in laws are meeting us for a few days perhaps a tour and tasting is in the cards as well.

The biggest reason behind convenience of packing in us getting the HTT was our PUP did not have any bathroom or waste water tank. My wife loves the hybrid because she is particular about having our own toilet and shower. I grew up with a PUP and own one for years so I am used to CG bathrooms. I have to check how big the black tank is in my Jayco 19H cause it just does not seem to last long. We do not conserve at all though so that may just be the problem. Also, the darn drain is so low that I can never get a good pitch on my sewer hose; my only gripe about this trailer.

Don't hate on us pinstripers. Some like myself really doesn't care about the NY-BOS rivalry. I actually really liked Francona and enjoy him on ESPN when he commentates, should be hall of fame bound.

If you do the Steam Train/River Boat ride, the River Boat goes right below Gillette Castle.
It is a must go if you're that close. There is also a CT River Ferry (5 or 6 cars) that you can take over the river from the Train ride side or you can drive up the river to the swing bridge where the Goodspeed Opera House and Gelston House is.Gelston House is a great place overlooking the river for lunch or Dinner.

One of the mods here has the Starcraft version of your HTT and has looked into lifting it because of that problem. I think the cost was over $3000 so he isn't doing it. I don't know why those Jayco/Starcraft are built so low. Poor design to get drainage from the sewer hose.
You could get Lynx blocks and put your wheels up on Lynx on both sides to get some lift. What a pain though.

I Love NY, just really dislike the Yankees.

So just got back Saturday, figured I would post some highlights.

Misquamicut beach in Westerly, RI I highly recommend. Clean beach, nice facilities, big playground for kids, and water was not too rough. $20/car for nonresidents for the day and nice huge parking lot. Really enjoyed it there.

Did the aquarium which my son always enjoys. Lots of new touch the wildlife attractions including stingrays, and sharks which was very cool. Little pricey but a very fun day. Went to Olde Mystic village afterwards which is ok few shops, but good thin crust pizza place, Tangos Fire Crust pizza I think it was called.

Downtown Mystic was also a great day, watching the awesome drawbridge and have some homemade ice cream. Next, time want to do the steam train; just too much for the lil man after a few busy days.

KOA North Stonington is was it is. Has a very nice pool. Rather pricey for the facilities but so close to everything. Almost all pull through sites, very open no real trees for shade. Besides proximity not much else going for it. For the little time we spent there though it worked and lil man got his pool time.
