How to set tension on anti-sway

So far we went out twice with the HTT.  During the first 2 trips, I have noticed a loud cracking/popping noise coming from where the trailer is hooked to TV.  The kind of noise I've heard for years on CGs when a TT would drive by my site... and I always wondered what that noise was !

From what I understand, that sound comes from the anti-sway.  I should mention that the anti-sway, WDH and the big ball mount (is that what it's called?) are all brand new, installed and adjusted by the dealer who sold me the HTT.  The techs at the dealership told me to adjust the sway bar the way I like it.  Well!!  Call me an idiot, but I really don't know how tight it has to be.  I think that if it is extremely tight - i.e. turning the lever towards "more" - the cracking noise is more frequent and louder.  I don't know if that's what we want!  Do we want it tight and noisy?  I suspect that if I turn the lever towards "less", it will be less tight, and less efficient.

1. Can you guys help me or give me tips as to how I should determine the tightness of the sway bar?  I can understand that it's almost trial and error, but I still don't know how to judge it.

2. Also: the dealer told that when I'm about to back up and to park the HTT, I should remove the anti-sway bar, which is what I did when backing up in my driveway.  Instead of removing the anti-sway bar, can I just loosen that lever?

Again, sorry for the long questions.  Just trying to give you a clear context and provide you with as much info as possible so you can help me.

What brand WDH and Anti-sway?  While most of them are similar in concept, they're all different enough in implementation that no one can provide you any meaningful answers without knowing which specific brand and likely model too.

We have an Equal-i-zer (http://www.equalizerhitch.com) on our TT and HTT before that.  It doesn't need to be removed before backing up like I understand others do.  It can groan and pop and clunk at times, but there are certain points I've learned by trial and error that you can lube to reduce or even eliminate the noises without reducing it's anti-sway and WDH capabilities to any significant degree.  I've set up and readjusted enough of them that i can probably answer most questions about then.  From what you've written, it doesn't sound like you have this brand, though, since it doesn't need a separate anti-sway bar that you seem to be describing.

If you have a sway bar like this

You adjust the bottom bolt until (with the handle fully unscrewed) the pads grip the bar it is has resistance to pushing-pulling by hand... then once installed tighten the handle (this is the guess work)...  Once your driving, you may need to stop and tighten or loosen the handle, after you do it a few times you'll get pretty good at finding a *starting* point ...

I remove ours when we pull into the campground and stop at the office to register..  I re-install it on the way out after we dump the tanks just before leaving or just after we pull out on to the road...
