I know there are a million posts already on WDH, so lets make
this 1,000,001 !

I have a 2000 Aero Cub C230 Hybrid.

It is a Galvanized frame, and the tongue is a C channel....

I just got a call from someone who wants to sell me his ONCE USED, E2 trunion WDH w/sway control for  cheeeeeep !

it is THIS ONE !

http://www.etrailer.com/Weight.....-0800.html

it has the CLAMP style frame hooks, and requires no chains either.

question 1, will this work with my frame style?

question 2, is this a good deal?,  DUH! ... I know it is a good deal, but will it work?

I am still interested in replies from persons with experience on WDH's.

right now I have just this experience....lol

I bought it anyway, could not pass up the potential great deal, as he had too many people interested, but I was the only one who did not lowball him or try to barter, and he lives 10 minutes from me.

it was used one time to tow a FEMA trailer 200 miles.  then it was stored in a garage.
retail is 399 + HD freight charges.  got it for 225. still need to buy the correct sized 2" shanked ball.
it has built in Sway Control too! (via the trunion bars)

I am guessing that I will have to have another piece of C-channel welded from the backside to have it "boxed in",  right?

as a side note, my camper has a sway control ball bolted to it on the curbside, will I probably have to remove that?

I have contacted all the manufacturers...lol

I have called the local shops and RV dealers as well.

Local Dealers here have replied that it will say in the manufacturers specifications, of which they have none for this model.

the short and sweet version of my emails

I am truly needing to know if the Galvanzed C channel frame construction of the Aero Cub C230 is designed to have a Weight Distribution Hitch System installed please.

This is Aero/Dutchmens reply

There are systems that will work with your unit in the aftermarket, Dutchmen cannot tell you which one to use.

Stabilizer bars & anti sway bars are a personal preference, your local dealership should be able to assist you. Some people do not use them.

Thank you,
xxxxxxxx

You are good to go. They have told you that you can use a wdh, but refuse to help you pick one.
Find one and make it work..It is not going to be easy, but you already knew that.

Just got a mini conference call from TWO people at Progress ( aka EQ and Fastway company)! one was from their CSR Steve, and the other person was from the MFR plant R&D)

They both agreed that the Frame will support the use of any WDH system.

based on my photos, they said it would not twist the frame.

They were very cool to talk with, and were insistent about the proper and safe use of their products.  They would never risk the safety of anyone, and would tell me otherwise if they thought so.

I asked about the downward force of the trunnions possibly bending the frame downward.

They both agreed it would be better to add a wood blocking inside the C frame, or optionally add a 4x4" plate welded to the frame where the clamps would go. but it is not absolutely necessary.

Etrailer has also responded to my questions, and now I have their approval as well!

According to the folks at Progress Manufacturing, the Fastway E2 brackets can be used on a C-channel frame. As long as the L-brackets can be attached and tightened so that both side plates are parallel to each other, the system will work great for you. You will want to make sure that both attachment bolts are tightened equally, as shown in the diagrams on page 13 and 14 of the instructions, which I will link you to.
