I am very confused that there is not a standard for needing a weight distribution hitch.  If your camper weights blank you should use one?  If the percentage of your tow vehicle is blank compared to your camper, you need a WDH?

If you feel like your rear bumper is dragging on the road and your camper wants to push you in a ditch, think about one?

The only standards that I'm aware of is that if the camper weighs more than 1/2 of the GVW of the TV then you need a WDH. I think if your back drops more than an inch then you'll have a smoother ride. But I agree, it is a confusing subject.

I've never heard of a standard for requiring a wdh.
It's dependent on the hitch and the TV.
The hitch on the TV should have a sticker showing at which tongue weight you need a wdh.
Remember that the hitch has maximum weights it will carry, but those may be over the maximum for the TV.
You should only use the maximum weight listed by the TV manufacturer.
This does get confusing, but hitch companies build a hitch for many vehicles and the maximum the hitch can carry may not be the maximum your TV can carry.

Here is a link to the type on towing guides ALL vehicles manufacturers should put out for their vehicles they are selling to tow with.

Ford does the best job I have ever seen with their towing guide.
It lists the J2807 compliancy, the GCWR, the maximum trailer weight for each cab style, engine and rear end.
It also lists Frontal area Considerations, and Factory hitch weight capacities.

The weight distribution hitch is done, we'll have to see how it feels on the way to Gettysburg this weekend.
I just need to install the battery again with a few changes.

How often do you move it around the yard that you need a WDH? You know I have one already so you did not need to get one, the MV can handle it....... as it already proved.

Looks good , just courious how much room you have with the battery mounted? Looks pretty close to the down brackets, i never needed one for my 3000 pound utah, just a sway bar, those high walls must be pretty heavy. but did get one for the new tt,  got tired of the diconnecting the friction sway  to back up mostly.  Still fine tuning mine a bit also.  Let us know how she ridese

The brackets mount on the trailer frame between 18" and 27" from the front ball.  If I would have left the smaller 24 series battery on, the brackets would have fit fine.  Since I just upgraded to a much larger 31 series RV battery... I will need to raise the battery up 1 inch to go above the brackets.

For most high walls, its not necessarily the total weight, its the tongue weight. My Flagstaff HW27KS has a tongue weight just above 500lbs. Most Hitches have a 500 lb. dead weight limit on the hitch, but go up to 750-800 when used with weight distribution.
