Thought I would mention a few things I have purchased lately that have made my life a bit easier in the kitchen....figured people could learn from each other what were good things to have,etc....both of these could easily be taken camping (or just used at home).....OK, me first....haha :chef:

1) I bought a Oster handheld blender and chopper from Walmart and it has made my life alot easier....I no longer have to chop and dice onions or cooked chicken by hand.....I throw it into the little bowl that comes with the chopper blade and it is like a mini food processor and was only $22 ( most food processors were $50 plus from what I remember).....would be easy to take camping as it is quite small. Have not tried to blend with it but I am sure it would do fine as it is made to go directly in a bowl ( since it is handheld).....only downside is only one arm to lick clean when you make a cake  😉

2) I bought a "The Great Hot Air Popper" at Goodwill for $4 and it was worth every penny.....had no idea how to use it but looked online :reader: and found a video easy enough.....plugged it in tonight and offered popcorn to my husband and the kids tonight as they were watching a movie.....luckily I had 2 big deep plastic bowls from the dollar store ( that is the only thing you would need to have on hand b/c it filled it up and it was a pretty big bowl).....at first the kernels just went round and round and I thought it was broken but as the popcorn starting popping my daughter ( age 4) began squealing and was so excited as it rose and poured into the bowl.....her squeals of delight let me know it was worth every penny! :chef: I can definitely see us bringing it camping for an easy treat....we had popcorn in under 2 min and no oil and no mess and the bottle of kernels was $5 and should last a good while ( well with my husband and stepsons maybe not....haha)....They are $20 at Walmart new so keep your eye out at Goodwill next time you go! 🙂

Anyway, these are two appliances that I would recommend to you for camping or at home. If you have one you want to share with me, that would be great!  We can learn from each other and not waste our money and save it for camping instead  ;D

Here's a little inexpensive item to make breakfast a whole bunch better ...
A stove top toaster. I got mine (I think) at Wal-Marts, I know I've seen them there before.

Anyway ... gots to have my toast with my oatmeal!

I can't think of any reason why not ...

Might even work on an electric range at home ... ya think(?)

Anyway, it's a very reasonably priced toaster ... and it works!

Can't camp without my stove top peculator. I have a gas fired smoker for the backyard, couldn't live without the smoker.

We percolate our coffee over whatever heat source.  Cook real popcorn over the campfire too.  They add to the good time of roughing it 🙂

We use the Whirlypop popcorn maker, similar to the one pictured by pathwacker.  I use at home, camping and scouts.  I only use local white corn.  I can't live with out my popcorn and Whirlypop

Sure can, just like with propane, it's all about controlling the heat/flame.  You can use it on electric too, but it takes awhile.

As for a perculator, I don't see it making my life easier.  I see it as making my life easier for OTHERS.  No coffee=miserable Steve.

Perc the coffee on a burner, over the fire, or on a griddle.    Popcorn too.
Or do it all at home.

I have to say that I am particular to my french press. I found a nice all Stainless Steel one at a kitchen store, so no glass to worry about breaking, and it is double walled for insulation.
My SO says I am the kitchen gaget king. I have aquired over the years a large collection of kitchen appliances, from sandwich presses, salad shooter (remember that one from way back when), a whole assortment of garlic peelers/mincers/slicers/choppers (if it has to do with garlic I have a tool for that), quesadilla maker, electric wok (one of my favorite things), electric steamer, ect ect ect.....
There isn't much in my kitchen that I don't use at some time or another. Lots of things I could live with out, but it's like keeping that 15/64ths drill bit around, you don't use it all the time, but when you need it, it is really handy to have.

I would like to get an air popper, I have seen them at GW and never thought about picking one up when I saw it. Will have to be a little more dilligent next time out.

The best gadgets I currently have in the kitchen are these http://www.j-a-henckels.com/en.....-2982.html  ..  🙂  Even though they aren't mine..  but I did pay $1000 them.. 😮 ...  Hopefully one day they will start to pay me back...  :goodstuff:

Edited for OP with permission.

I am interested in hearing more about the salad shooter ( is that the same as the thing that spins the salad and basically dries it?) and i have been toying with the idea of a quesadilla maker but have yet to find one at GW that i think is in decent shape....same for a sandwich press which i figure would make a bang up grilled cheese sandwich :chef:.....anyway, if you have any thoughts on either of these don't be afraid to speak your mind  🙂

Nah, that is a Salad Spinner, the Salad Shooter is one of those late night TV infomercial gagets that came out in the late 80's/early90's. It is really handy if you have to shred a lot of something and don't want to drag the food  processor out. Of course the one on that website is much fancier than mine, I have had mine for about 14-15 years. For every christmas or Birthday my parents would buy me a kitchen appliance, started around the age of 13. I think they were trying to get me ready so when I turned 18 they could kick me out!  ;D So I have a bunch of these little gadget-y type things around.

I love my sandwich press, again "as seen on TV" type. But it is really handy and my son likes to create his own triangle sandwiches. As for the Quesadilla maker, go for it, you won't regret it. I got mine when I was living with a couple of buddies and I was in the Navy. We started hosting Quesadilla night once a week. We would just put out bowls of fillers and people could make up what ever they wanted.
